A year ago, I had the idea to write an evolutionary algorithm with the goal of creating fun, wacky and varied chess puzzles.

It works by generating random legal chess positions, picking the best looking ones for puzzles using an ML model as well as static rules and then mutating and crossing them over with one another to create even better puzzles with each generation.

Once I got the AI to work, I enjoyed the puzzles it created so much I thought it would be worth building a website to host them.

12 months later, I have built a website with quite a diverse range of different AI generated puzzles, from western chess to mini chess to shatranj!

I'm very excited about it, working almost every day after work to add more content to the website and improve the puzzle generation algorithms.
