A large ceratopsian dinosaur of the genus Triceratops of the Cretaceous Period, having a large bony frill at the back of the skull, a pair of horns above the eyes, and a single horn on the nose.

(trī-sĕr′ə-tŏps′) A large, plant-eating dinosaur of the late Cretaceous Period, measuring up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) in length. The triceratops had a beak-like mouth with a short horn over it and a long horn over each eye. The back of its neck was covered with a wide, bony plate.
