Movie Review: "A Quiet Place" Is Worth Making Some Noise About (MILD SPOILERS)

A QUIET PLACE Starring Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cade Woodward Screenplay by Bryan Woods & Scott Beck and John Krasinky Directed by John Krazinksi Reviewed by Patrick Gibbs Out Of Four To start off with an irrelevant tangent (because I love a good irrelevant tangent), I'm a big fan of finding silly, obscure connections in movies. I'm also a big  Jack Ryan fan, the following are some bits of trivia that amuse me: The first two actors to play Tom Clancy's  famous CIA analyst (Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford) appeared together in Mike Nichols Working Girl. Alec Baldwin and the fourth Jack, Chris Pine, voiced Santa Claus and Jack Frost in Rise of the Guardians.  Wonder Woman seems to have a Jack Ryan fixation (you can figure that one out for yourself.). Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) also has one, having co-written films with Ben Affleck and the fifth (wow, there have really been five?) Ryan, John Krasinski. ...

Birthday Boys for February the 17th.

Today we celebrate the birthdays of three totally different men. First of all Hal Holbrook (seated on the left on the still above). This actor celebrates his 90th birthday today. The man has an acting career that spans more than 60 years and includes more than 125 titles. Oddly enough he starred in a project called Lincoln twice, once in the mid-seventies in a tv-series, portraying the title character of Lincoln , and once, a few years ago, in the Spielberg directed bio-pic, portraying Preston Blair. The second actor also played a part in the Spielberg-directed Lincoln . This time we're talking about Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He portrayed Abraham Lincoln's son Robert in the 2012 film. Joseph turns 34, but has already worked on over 65 films, shorts and TV-series/-movies  as an actor, writer, producer or director. However the last birthday boy is the most famous and commercially most successful of the day: Spielberg and Bay, smiling al...

If Michael Bay Directed Pixar's Up

I will confess I'm not a fan of Michael Bay.  I once sat through Pearl Harbor and fell asleep only to wake up an hour later and still nothing had happened.  Anyway, lets be impartial for a minute. Every director has their unique signature style and there's no denying Michael Bay certainly stamps his style with a bang on most of his films.  His reputation of using as many explosions in a movie as possible with severe close up, in your face shots is known throughout the world.  Youtuber MrStratman7 has put together this clever video showing us what would have happened if Bay had directed the much loved and tear provoking Up from Pixar. It certainly would have been different. Impartiality over.  Bay sucks.  Armageddon anyone? Transformers director Michael Bay attacked in Hong Kong

Steven Spielberg with MICHAEL BAY He may be my least favourite movie director (should I be typing this in caps when talking about Bay?  You know?  Loud, in your face etc.)  anyway, as I was saying he may be my least favourite movie director but I wouldn't wish this on him and commend him for continuing to work. From the BBC News website: American film director Michael Bay has been injured in an attack in Hong Kong while filming on the set of his latest Transformers film. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of blackmail and assault after they demanded money from the film crew, police have said. Mr Bay, 48, received injuries to the right side of his face. But he declined to seek treatment and continued filming in a busy area of Hong Kong island. A local newspaper in Hong Kong reported that three men caused what it called "a huge disturbance" to the filming of the American science-fiction film. It said that the men could have missed out on disturbance fe...
