Amazon Prime Video is an on-demand subscription service owned and operated by Amazon. Prime Video was launched in 2006 and initially named Amazon Unbox in the United States before it was rebranded following the creation of the Prime Video membership format. Customers are granted access to thousands of movies and television shows via the payment of a monthly subscription service. In 2013, Amazon Prime Video began the creation and distribution of their own exclusive content with titles such as Sneaky Pete and Bosch, while as of 2022 they acquired the rights to a Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power television series for $250 million.
