Tough day for FHS hockey girls and boys teams

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Saturday, Jan 20, 2024.

Boys Hockey = Franklin, 4 @ King Philip, 5 – Final
Twitter thread via https://twitter.com/R_Lanigan
  • Highly anticipated Kelley-Rex showdown on the ice at Foxboro Sports Center. King Philip (4-1 Hockomock, 8-7-2) hosting rival Franklin (4-1, 8-7-0), winner controls its destiny in division title race
  • Sophomore Grady Bianculli throws one on net, looked covered originally but it popped loose and sophomore Joe Robison tucks it in. Great start for the Warriors up 1-0 with 12:44 left 1P
  • Deflected clearance falls right to Ben Paterson for a breakaway and last year’s Hock MVP snaps one off the iron and it’s ruled a goal. Panthers pull level, 1-1 with 10:18 left 1P
  • Paterson gets his second, left free to clean up a rebound right in front and Franklin takes a 2-1 lead with 7:10 left 1P
  • Back and forth we go. Bianculli tees up Rowan Boulger and he rips one in and now the Warriors tie it up, 2-2, with 6:38 left 1P
  • End 1P: Franklin 2, King Philip 2. Warriors struck first, Panthers jumped ahead with two in a row but the hosts pulled even — all within the first nine minutes
  • King Philip cashes in with seconds left on a 5-on-3. Bianculli’s shot partially cleared but only as far as senior Sam Naggar and his blast from the blue line finds its way through traffic. KP back up, 3-2, with 7:39 left 2P
  • Great hustle from Max Robison leads to a breakaway that's stopped but Boulger follows up and uses a nice move alone in front for a short handed goal. King Philip up 4-2, 6:24 left 2P
  • End 2P: King Philip 4, Franklin 2. Big period for the Warriors with a power play goal and a short handed goal
  • Franklin gets one back within the first minute of the third. Slip behind the net leads to a chance, Dan Daley puts one on the doorstep for Anthony Lampasona. KP lead cut to 4-3, 14:06 left 3P
  • Massive response from King Philip. Jack Morgan comes streaking down the right side and flips one in just inside the post for an unassisted goal. Warriors back up two at 5-3 with 13:05 left 3P
  • Final: King Philip 5, Franklin 4. Warriors take down the Panthers and now sit in the driver’s seat in the Kelley-Rex division with two league games left. Trevor Walmsley with 26 saves in the win

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, Jan 3, 2024.

Boys Hockey = North Attleboro, 1 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
Game #8 Results: #10 Franklin (5) North Attleboro (1) (Shots- Franklin 52 North Attleboro 11)
1st period Recap: Shots - Franklin (16) North Attleboro (4)
Tonight, the boys came out firing the puck & @ 2 ½ minutes into the game Paterson snaps a shot from the slot rebound goes to McEvoy who stickhandles around the goalie for the goal to put Franklin on the board. At 6:45 McEvoy to Lampasona to Paterson for the snip Franklin up 2. Again, at 5:45 on the PK Marchand & Arienti combine for nice play behind the net & find McEvoy on the wall who hits Paterson in stride streaking down the ice for the breakaway shorty! A flurry of shots from Daley, Wernig & Balducci keep North's goalie on his toes couple with strong blue line play by Toli, Harrington, Smith and Greenwood, it's a heavy tilt Franklin's way. Torraco got the nod in the pipes and serves up a donut in the 1st & after 1 period - Franklin 3 North Attleboro 0
2nd Period Recap: Shots - Franklin (23) North Attleboro (1)
As play ensues it's all Franklin w/ heavy pressure in the Ozone Quinn, Langevin & Hager are all over the place pumping shots at the goalie w/ Harrington and Toli ripping shots from the point. Next shift much of the same as Taccini, Carosi, R. Lampasona continue to grind keeping North hemmed into their zone. 8 minutes into period NA still no shots. McAlpine, Lewandowski & Taccini are flying hungry for a point, intensity is high. Finally off Norths 1st shot of the period its redirected to Toli who finds Lampasona who goes the length of the ice for the goal Franklin up 4. Solid lockdown defensive by Marchand, Arienti, Toli, Harrington & Smith as the puck only made it into the D zone for overall about 1 ½ minutes of play & Torraco serves up another goose egg. At end of 2 periods Franklin 4 North Attleboro 0.
3rd Period Recap: Shots - Franklin (13) North Attleboro (6)
At the 11:14 mark in the 3'd, Paterson wins an Ozone faceoff back to Greenwood who snaps a shot from the point. As a scrum ensues in front of the net the puck finds Daley's stick and he tucks it home to put Franklin up 5. Several solid shifts from McAlphine, Taccini & Fletcher - they are buzzing & getting lots of solid attempts to put one home. The boys are anchored by a strong presence at the blue line from Shaughnessy,
Q. Taccini and Greenwood while Torraco holds down the fort. Great team win lots of reps tonight for the boys tonight.
