FHS gymnastics, girls, and boys basketball teams all post wins on Friday

Via HockomockSports.com and Twitter, we share the results of the FHS winter sports action on Friday:

Boys Basketball = Milford, 34 @ Franklin, 77 – Final 
– Franklin poured in 21 points in the first quarter and never looked back in a big win over visiting Milford. Junior Justin Allen hit half of his four three-pointers in the first quarter, sophomore Henry Digiorgio hit had one of his game-high five three-pointers in the opening quarter, and senior Sean Vinson also hit from deep as the Panthers established a 21-9 lead after one, and pushed the lead to 40-17 at half after hitting five more threes in the second, including one from freshman Caden Sullivan. Digiorgio finished with a game-high 21 points, Allen had 16 points, Vinson finished at 10 points, and junior Geino Scaringello chipped in with 10 second half points.

Girls Basketball = Franklin, 62 @ Milford, 19 – Final 
– Franklin held Milford to six or fewer points in each quarter to continue its win streak. The Panthers jumped out to a 23-4 lead after the first and then extended the lead to 41-9 by halftime. Katie Peterson and Olivia Quinn each scored 11 to lead the Panthers and Stefany Padula added 10, as a dozen Franklin players got on the board. Maeve Driscoll led Milford with six, all in the fourth quarter on a pair of threes. Maddalena Mannucci Pacini and Brooke Ferreira each scored four.

The faculty and staff of the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School (BFCCPS), located in Franklin, Massachusetts, are pleased to announce that alumni scholarship applications for alumni who are graduating from high school this year are now available. This scholarship is designed for Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School graduates who have displayed academic achievement, a commitment to serving others, and continued to demonstrate virtuous behavior since graduating from BFCCPS.  Eligible students would have been a member of the BFCCPS Grade Eight class of 2018.

 Applicants must be a BFCCPS graduate who attended BFCCPS for a minimum of 3 years,  a graduating high school senior who will be entering their first year of post-secondary education and available to attend the BFCCPS 8th grade graduation in June where the scholarship will be awarded. 

The scholarship application is posted on the school's website at www.bfccps.org and to the BFCCPS Alumni Facebook page.  The application deadline is March 28, 2022. 

BFCCPS is a regional public charter school for students in Kindergarten through Grade Eight.  Founded in 1995, BFCCPS is one of the oldest and most successful charter schools in the state of Massachusetts. 

The school provides a well-rounded, rigorous academic program designed to educate the whole child providing yearlong courses in art, music, languages, technology, and physical education. The school's integrated character education, community service, and strong parent partnerships, have led to local, state and national recognition. BFCCPS alumni continue to excel during their attendance at local public high schools as well as independent high schools.  Enrollment applications for the 2022-2023 school year are available through February 15, 2022. The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format: members of the Town Council and Town Administration personnel, the Police retirement and promotion individuals, along with their guest and family members were in the Council Chambers, some members of the public participated in person, some via the Zoom conference bridge, all to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period.

Bags That Give Back: SAFE Coalition is Selected to Benefit in The Stop & Shop Community Bag Program Designed to Give Back in Local Communities

Reduce single-use plastic in the environment and give back to those in need in the local community, all while running routine weekly errands at the local Stop & Shop. SAFE Coalition has been selected by local Stop & Shop store leadership as the benefiting non-profit in the Stop & Shop Community Bag for the month of February!

The Stop & Shop Community Bag Program is an easy way for shoppers to give back to the local community and the environment as part of the regular shopping routine. Every $2.50 reusable Community Bag sends a $1 donation to a non-profit local to the Stop & Shop in which it was purchased.

As part of this ongoing program, every month at every Stop & Shop location a different local non-profit is selected to benefit from the sale of the reusable Community Bag. SAFE Coalition was selected as the February beneficiary by local store leadership at the store located at Franklin. SAFE Coalition will receive a $1 donation for every $2.50 reusable Community Bag purchased at this location in February.

We'll be discussing the recently passed bipartisan infrastructure bill and other pressing issues facing Congress. In addition, there will be an opportunity to be connected with members of my team to discuss casework services in our office. FHS girls indoor track team tops Taunton in 3-way meet on Thursday

Via HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the FHS winter sports action on Thursday:  


Boys Indoor Track (@ Reggie Lewis Center) = Mansfield, 65 @ Franklin, 31 
– Final – Mansfield took first place in seven events plus swept both relays to grab a win over Franklin. Jake Wall was a double-winner, taking first in both the 55M (6.79) and the long jump (21-06.25) while the Hornets also got wins from Riley Tremblay (1000M, 2:50.19), Chris Leonard (1 Mile, 4:39.97), Collin Stevens (2 Mile, 10:30.17), Evan Rawlings (high jump, 5-02.00), and Dylan Buchanan (55M hurdles, 8.54). Luke Sidwell (300M, 37.70), Tyler Powderly (300M, 1:28.58), and Emmett Lackey (shot put, 40-08.75) had wins for Franklin.

Tough loss for the boys vs Mansfield (32-64).  Congrats to event winners Luke Sidwell (300), Tyler Powderly (600), and Emmett Lackey (SP).

Loss by the boys in a virtual meet vs Taunton (34-57). Congrats to event winners Tyler Powderly (600), Kevin Proenca (LJ), and Emmett Lackey (SP).

Double meet v Mansfield and Taunton.  Congrats to @emmettlackey1  for taking 1st against both Mansfield and Taunton.  Congrats to @ecournoyer23  for a big PR and placing 3rd v Mansfield.  Shoutouts to @GomezKaleth  for a season best and  @JamesSt80580917 a PR. Great work!  @FHSSports


Girls Indoor Track (@ Reggie Lewis Center) = Mansfield, 53 @ Franklin, 47 – Final 
– Mansfield took points from each individual event, getting two of the top three spots in five events to just edge out Franklin and finish the season at 5-0 for the Kelley-Rex division title. The Hornets got key points with a 1-2 finish in the 55M dash (Chloe Guthrie, Abigail Scott), the 1000M (Katherine Miller, Meghan Johnston), the 1 Mile (Norah Puleo, Alanna Conley) and the long jump (Anna Buckley, Elsie Roberts) plus first and third in the 55M hurdles (Buckley, Julia Pike). Mansfield also got key wins in the 600M (Caitlin Dumouchel) and the 2 Mile (Anna Moore). Franklin picked up wins from Sophia Cuneo (300M, 1:48.13), Abigail Griffith (high jump, 5-00.00), and Darby Nicholson (shot put, 30-08.50).

Hard fought loss to Mansfield by the girls tonight (47-53). Congrats to event winners  Sophia Cuneo (300), Abby Griffith (HJ), Darby Nicholson (SP), 4x2 (Sophia Cuneo, Alex Pond, Maddie Gaughran, Barra Pfluke) and 4x4 (Olivia Costa, Anna Cliff, Sarah Dumas, Lainey Costa)

Big win for the girls vs Taunton (66-34). Congrats to event winners Anna Cliff (55), Sarah Dumas (55H), Olivia Costa (600), Meghan Griffith (mile), Abby Griffith (HJ), Cailyn Bruno (LJ), Darby Nicholson (SP), and 4x2 (Sophia Cuneo, Alex Pond, Maddie Gaughran, Barra Pfluke)
