Nude photo scandal: Former Private Kally Wayne claims her privacy was invaded after her ex-boyfriend allegedly shared the couple's private sex tape in a Facebook group containing nearly 30,000 members
The postings, which were first reported by former Marine Sergeant Thomas Brennan on Reveal News, began less than a month after the first Marine infantry unit was assigned women on January 5.
Kally told ABC News she is seeking justice as she said it is time to expose the alleged wrongdoings of the Marine Corps.
'Having to go through being harassed for every day of my life for the past year because of a mistake I made four years ago is not anything anyone deserves to go through,' Wayne said.
Wayne opened up about the ordeal and claims she knows other women who have fallen victim to the nude photo scandal
The woman had joined the Marine Corps in 2013, but was released for an unrelated offense three years later. Kally believes that she is only one of numerous other women who have fallen victim to the nude photo scandal.
'It is extremely widespread, she added. 'If it happened to me its got to be happening to a lot of other females.'
After she realized the video had been circulating the internet, Wayne went to the police but she was told they could not able to do anything because she did not live in North Carolina.
'I went to his command and they said, 'Why don't you not make sex tapes?'' she told The Washington Post.
Another unnamed female Marine who was allegedly exploited told the paper her photos would continue to appear even after they were reported and taken down.
According to Brennan, the amount of shared explicit photos range from the hundreds to potentially thousands and the images are often subjected to obscene and derogatory comments.
The original link for the photos read: 'Here you go, you thirsty f***s … this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is more coming,' the report said.
One federal employee who has been reportedly fired, responded to the link encouraging others to upload pictures.
'Anyone can contribute. They just have to (private message) me for their own personal upload link,' the employee said.
The scandal was first reported by former sergeant Thomas Brennan who discovered the photos linked to the Facebook page
More than two dozen women, many who are still enlisted, have been identified in photos shared on the page by their name, rank, and duty station since January 30, the report said.
The Facebook page is restricted to male Marines Navy corpsmen and British Royal Marines. Females make up only seven per cent of the Marines active duty ranks.
The Corps is investigating the allegations and victims are encouraged to come forward.
General Robert Neller released a four-minute video condemning the acts.
'It's embarrassing to our Corps, to our families and to the nation,' he said.
Neller added: 'When I hear allegations of Marines denigrating their fellow Marines, I don't think such behavior is out of true warriors or war fighters.'
The Marines involved in the scandal could be subjected to criminal proceedings, ABC reported.
