Cosmology

The biblical portrayal of the cosmos (both its size and age) is significantly different from how we today understand the expanding universe over deep time. How might we go about interpreting the cosmology of the Bible in order to understand its normative theological claims? This blog post for BioLogos explores the biblical idea of the cosmic temple and how it might relate to our contemporary cosmology.

In order to better cope with the pressures and stresses of the current day, modern psychology is anxiously seeking to find new therapies to address the increasing disorders within the human psyche. In the process new fields of research, such as humanistic and transpersonal psychology, curiously appear to borrow more and more from the wisdom of the ages. The discussion of the Theory of EVERYTHING has been continued with a concerted interest on physicality, and in particular, the concept of Dark Matter and consciousness embodiment, making a reference to the advent of Core Manifestation Body Template or concept of Morphogenetic Field. Part I – Spirilla Theory and Cosmology
Stephen Hawking once proclaimed that String Theory may be able to unify the various forces although later he became disillusioned thinking that there may be no Theory of Everything. This very condensed book pulls together the various forces into the Spirilla Theory which supersedes String Theory and introduces the Relativity of Consciousness.

The foundation of the Spirilla Theory is based on the writings of H. P. Blavatsky, A. B. Bailey, and A. Besant. By overlaying the works of Einstein, Bohm, de Broglie, Dirac, Bell and other great scientific minds, on top of the foundation, the unification of the various forces and theories starts to appear; each field of study supplying a part of the puzzle but only a holistic view of ALL endeavors will solve the mystery. The book starts by laying the groundwork through the Introduction, a review of Bell’s Theorem and p-adic mathematics; following this, each major section begins with a quote from the foundational works followed by the quotes from scientific papers demonstrating the current known thinking on the various topics; no attempts are made to edit the works (except with a few exceptions for clarity and/or length) of the various authors and references to the scientists’ works are maintained. Each section is pulled together so that a picture can be seen.

b. death including the processes of death, two main reasons for cremation and the sequence of events at death.
3. Manifestations of the various religions including:
a. why Christians don’t believe in reincarnation;
b. the coming science of invocation and evocation;
c. Quantum Entanglement Over Time (QEoT) or The Law of Cause and Effect, and The Law of Karma with a discussion on The Golden Rule ; and
d. The New World Religion.

The dissertation focuses on the texts of a religious movement known as Tianshidao (the Way of the Celestial Masters) from the 2nd to the 5th century CE. Tianshidao is presented as a multifaceted tradition that should not be reduced by a predefined essence or a teleological vision of history. Instead of reconstructing one coherent cosmology, the author interprets the texts as representing various alternative cosmologies. They are compared according to the theory of cultural bias of Mary Douglas, in terms of grid and group. Special attention is paid to the employment of the bureaucratic imagery and the representations of time which are interpreted in the context of the cultural bias and the various modes of relationship towards the institutions of Tianshidao and the state. The author also analyses the millennialist character of the movement which was noted by previous research and distinguishes between various types of millennialism.

Исследованы радиальные зависимости скорости солнечного ветра, тепловых скоростей плазменных частиц от радиальной расстояние от солнца и асимптотика поведение этих параметров. Выявлено что сингулярность имеется в основном на расстояние до расстояние 8 радиуса Солнца от ее поверхности. Найдено что в данном рассмотрение число сингулярных точек имеется больше чем 3. И это связано тепловыми потоками которые учитывается в задаче. Асимптотические зависимости для скорости солнечного ветра и для компонентов теплового движение частиц солнечного ветра совпадает с зависимостями полученные численного вычисления. Зависимости и найденные частное решении дает представление об радиальном зависимости скорости ветра и результаты использованы при интерпретации получаемых энергии частицами, который позже ускоряются. In my Ph.D. dissertation, I described a way of achieving anti-aging through consciousness projection into a more advanced parallel universe. Upon reaching the "point of no return," individuals have reported that time seems to flow much slower for them, resulting in anti-aging effects on both the mind and body.

This article is the result of a larger study that investigates elements of the Kichwa cosmological system.
The theme has been explored since the 80s from the so called perspectivist ontological turn that combines
theoretical models resulting from different ethnographic works with a common interest to propose
alternatives to the traditional dualism between nature / culture. Based on an ethnographic methodology
based mainly on the perceptions of local people, the article aims to show descriptively how certain cultural
markers: shamanism and body building, local mythic and territorial perception are retracted. From
the data collected, it is concluded that said retraction is due to the attractiveness of modernity and its technologies,
mainly towards the new generations. On the other hand we have the pause in the generational
transfer of traditional knowledge. This is inserted in a particular socio-economic dynamic in a territory
located outside the urban centers of modern development.

Context. The detection of overabundances of α-elements and lithium in the secondary star of a black-hole binary provides important insights about the formation of a stellar-mass black-hole. α-enhancement might theoretically also be the result of pollution by the nucleosynthesis occurring during an outburst, or through spallation by the jet. Aims. We study the abundances, and their possible variations with time, in the secondary star of the runaway black-hole binary GRO J1655-40, in order to understand their origin. Methods. We present a detailed comparison between a Keck spectrum obtained in 1998 found in the literature, archival VLT-UVES data taken in 2004 and new VLT-UVES spectra obtained early 2006. We carefully determine the equivalent widths of different α-elements (Mg, O, Ti, S and Si) with their associated uncertainty. We use the well-studied comparison star HD 156098 as well as synthetic spectra to match the spectrum of GRO J1655-40 in order to determine the abundances of these elements. Results. We see no significant variations of equivalent widths with time. Our fit using HD 156098 reveals that there is significant overabundance of oxygen in all our spectra, but no overabundances of any of the other α-elements. Finally, we do not detect the lithium line at 6707 Å. Conclusions. We show that there is no detected pollution in GRO J1655-40 after the burst in 2005. Moreover, we argue that uncertainties in the equivalent widths were previously underestimated by a factor of ∼3. Consequently, our results challenge the existence of general overabundances of α-elements observed in this galactic black-hole binary, and thus the accepted interpretation that they are of supernova origin. The physical cause of the overabundance of oxygen remains unclear.

We study the redshift distribution of two samples of early-type gravitational lenses, extracted from a larger collection of 122 systems, to constrain the cosmological constant in the ΛCDM model and the parameters of a set of alternative dark energy models (XCDM, Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati and Ricci dark energy models), in a spatially flat universe. The likelihood is maximized for Ω Λ = 0.70 ± 0.09 when considering the sample excluding the Sloan Lens ACS systems (known to be biased toward large image-separation lenses) and no-evolution, and Ω Λ = 0.81 ± 0.05 when limiting to gravitational lenses with image separation ∆θ > 2 ′′ and no-evolution. In both cases, results accounting for galaxy evolution are consistent within 1σ. The present test supports the accelerated expansion, by excluding the null hypothesis (i.e., Ω Λ = 0) at more than 4σ, regardless of the chosen sample and assumptions on the galaxy evolution. A comparison between competitive world models is performed by means of the Bayesian information criterion. This shows that the simplest cosmological constant model that has only one free parameter is still preferred by the available data on the redshift distribution of gravitational lenses. We perform an analysis of the possible systematic effects, finding that the systematic errors due to sample incompleteness, galaxy evolution and model uncertainties approximately equal the statistical errors, with present-day data. We find that the largest sources of systemic errors are the dynamical normalization and the high-velocity cutoff factor, followed by the faint-end slope of the velocity dispersion function.

The fundamental holographic principle is first proposed, then demonstrated in its validity and viability through a thought experiment and then finally derived. The Heisenberg uncertainty relations are shown to follow from this fundamental relation. The quantum blackhole entropy is then demonstrated using this holographic uncertainty relation along with the application of the Landauer’s principle for the thermodynamic erasure of a bit yielding a formula with a logarithmic correction. The blackhole entropy is found to be half the value normally delivered by any other method. So, it is proposed that there is a real relevant physical horizon at the twice the Schwarzschild radius dubbed the holographic information geometric horizon.

We model the small-scale clustering of luminous red galaxies (LRGs; Masjedi et al. 2006) in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Specifically, we use the halo occupation distribution (HOD) formalism to model the projected two-point correlation function of LRGs on scales well within the sizes of their host halos (0.016h −1 Mpc ≤ r ≤ 0.42h −1 Mpc). We start by varying P (N |M), the probability distribution that a dark matter halo of mass M contains N LRGs, and assuming that the radial distribution of satellite LRGs within halos traces the NFW dark matter density profile. We find that varying P (N |M) alone is not sufficient to match the small-scale data. We next allow the concentration of satellite LRG galaxies to differ from that of dark matter and find that this is also not sufficient. Finally, we relax the assumption of an NFW profile and allow the inner slope of the density profile to vary. We find that this model provides a good fit to the data and the resulting value of the slope is −2.17 ± 0.12. The radial density profile of satellite LRGs within halos is thus not compatible with that of the underlying dark matter, but rather is closer to an isothermal distribution.

Once before, when I was reading Stepten Baxter's utterly enthralling cosmological epic Evolution, I wrote a book review in two installments, writing the first installment before I had finished reading the book. I am going to do the same thing again, writing my review of David Brin's new science fiction novel, Existence, in two parts. At the moment I am about halfway through the book.

Atomic numbers of Hydrogen, Helium, Boron, Neon, Calcium, Technetium, and Protactinium are members of a cryptic numerical progression series. Contextually, this research paper involves postulation and hypothesis formulation around some elements from the periodic table. The atomic numbers of these selected elements form a numerical series. Let’s call it an arithmetico-exponential series. The main assumption to decipher the existence of such a series is instigated by the occurrence of certain elements that behave very exceptionally.

The discrepancy of hubble constant has been growing for years and increasing even more as huge amount of data is being collected. Planck satellite which is used to study the cosmic microwave background radiations (CMB) gives the precise value of about 67 km/s/Mpc for hubble constant while astronomers by observing stars and galaxies in the late Universe have given the range of values that are not consistent with the value determined by Planck data. In this paper the author has studied and discovered the reasons which are involved in the above discrepancy. This paper has not only described the reasons for different values of hubble constant obtained from Planck data and late Universe but also solves the mystery of accelerating expansion of the Universe. It also tells us that why different techniques and standard candles give variation in the value of hubble constant.

Context. Superclusters are the largest systems in the Universe to give us information about the very early Universe. Our present series of papers is devoted to the study of the properties of superclusters of galaxies from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift survey. Aims. We use catalogues of superclusters of galaxies from the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey to compare the properties of rich and poor superclusters. In particular, we study the properties of galaxies (spectral types, colours, and luminosities) in superclusters. Methods. We compare the distribution of densities in rich and poor superclusters, and the properties of galaxies in high and lowdensity regions of rich superclusters, in poor superclusters, and in the field. In superclusters and in the field, we also compare the properties of galaxies in groups, and the properties of those galaxies which do not belong to any group. Results. We show that in rich superclusters the values of the luminosity density smoothed on a scale of 8 h −1 Mpc are higher than in poor superclusters: the median density in rich superclusters is δ ≈ 7.5 and in poor superclusters δ ≈ 6.0. Rich superclusters contain high-density cores with densities δ > 10, while in poor superclusters such high-density cores are absent. The properties of galaxies in rich and poor superclusters and in the field are different: the fraction of early type, passive galaxies in rich superclusters is slightly higher than in poor superclusters, and is the lowest among the field galaxies. Most importantly, in high-density cores of rich superclusters (δ > 10), there is an excess of early type, passive galaxies in groups and clusters, as well as among those which do not belong to any group. The main galaxies of superclusters have a rather limited range of absolute magnitudes. The main galaxies of rich superclusters have higher luminosities than those of poor superclusters and of groups in the field. Conclusions. Our results show that both the local (group/cluster) environments and global (supercluster) environments influence galaxy morphologies and their star formation activity.

Set in an imaginary East African colony, the story centered on a woman killed for alleged witchcraft practices. The novel mirrored the nonfictional events of the Wakamba trials, sparking a dialogue on what constituted law, order and justice in a colonial state. These serve as the central themes of Luongo's text. Tensions between Kenyans and colonial authority vis-à-vis witchcraft created room for negotiating the precincts of colonial rule.

I kødet ligger de største tabuer i antropologien: man må ikke ligge med sit eget kød (incestforbud), og man må ikke spise sit eget kød (kannibalisme). Navnkundige tænkere i antropologien som Claude Lévi-Strauss og Marshall Sahlins anfører i deres analyser om tabuer, at der er god grund til, at disse opstod. Det kræver markante tiltag, hvis det at kigge indad, at lade sig nære af det, man allerede har, og det, der skabes indenfor gruppen, skal brydes. Tabuer er i den forbindelse nogle af de stærkeste tiltag, vi har. Incest-og kannibalismetabuerne tilskynder til og nødvendiggør udveksling. Vi er ikke nok i os selv, synes disse universelle tabuer at hviske eller banke ind i os. Du skal vende blikket udad, du skal konfrontere og konfronteres af det, der ikke er dig. Det er det, denne artikel handler om: Med hadza, en gruppe jæger-samlere i Nordtanzania, som case, vil vi se på tabuer, deling af kød og det at møde sin "signifikante anden" for at dele sig selv. Vi lader ideen om incest ligge for nu, men holder fast i kannibalismen og i kødet. Artiklen vil handle om kød som jagtbytte, kød som spise, kød som genstand for deling (sharing), kød som relateret til tabuer og kød med sjæl. Og på en eller anden måde vil det handle om en gruppes aktive modværge mod kannibalisme, at kollektivet kan se sig selv i øjnene og en vedvarende kamp for samfundets fortsatte genskabelse.

An interpretation of the Lorentz transformation strongly suggests that space is a compressible fluid capable of hosting the virtual mass component of a relativistic particle. This in turn suggests that virtual mass is a measure of the local spatial energy density. In real fluids, such as air and water, virtual mass is  measurable in embedded objects as a component of its apparent momentum when moving relative to the fluid medium; e.g., as in dirigibles and submarines.

In space, virtual mass is what imparts momentum to photons and other virtual particles, such as gravitons. The apparent mass of an object traveling at any relevant speed is the sum of its rest mass and the virtual mass thought to reside within the object itself; but, posed herein to reside within the associated surrounding space. 

In the fluid theory of space, it is argued that virtual mass resides in the fluid medium - space itself. This virtual mass is a property of space; and, it is the basis of (so called) virtual particles, such as gravitons. It is the virtual mass of a particle that is responsible for the wave-like nature of fast moving particles, mistakenly thought to reside within the particle. It is virtual mass which explains the observed results of the dual-slit experiment.

The virtual mass properties of a fluid space are responsible for the manifestation of gravity as space converges radially to all forms of elemental matter and energy. Virtual mass is also responsible for many quantum properties, such as uncertainty and the Copenhagen interpretation. Virtual mass is the bridge across the quantum disconnect currently separating Relativity and Quantum theory.

Single dye molecules at cryogenic temperatures display many spectroscopic phenomena known from free atoms and are thus promising candidates for fundamental quantum optical studies. However, the existing techniques for the detection of single molecules have either sacrificed the information on the coherence of the excited state or have been inefficient. Here we show that these problems can be addressed by focusing the excitation light near to the absorption cross section of a molecule. Our detection scheme allows us to explore resonance fluorescence over 9 orders of magnitude of excitation intensity and to separate its coherent and incoherent parts. In the strong excitation regime, we demonstrate the first observation of the Mollow triplet from a single solid-state emitter. Under weak excitation we report the detection of a single molecule with an incident power as faint as 150 attoWatt, paving the way for studying nonlinear effects with only a few photons.

'Country Manifest' is the unpublished dissertation from my PhD in creative writing, 'Nature in the Twenty-First Century', completed at the University of New South Wales in 2016. The creative work, 'Six Capitals', was published in 2014 and 2020. This following is the abstract from the completed PhD.

This thesis is comprised of two parts—a work of nonfiction, Six Capitals, and a scholarly dissertation, Country Manifest—which investigate the vital contemporary relationship between western economics and the natural world. Six Capitals charts the breakdown of economic measures of wealth and conceptions of nature in the face of ecological crises and the advent of the networked computer. It argues that the measures that underpin industrial capitalism and today govern the global economy are inadequate for an age of climate change. This has brought attempts to measure previously unmeasured realms of wealth, figured as ‘capital’, such as ‘natural capital’ and ‘social capital’. Six Capitals argues that this proposed new system of measurement is not enough to address the contemporary crises in nature. Instead, a new corporation and a new conception of nature in western law are required.

Country Manifest examines five novels by Alexis Wright and Kim Scott published after the 1992 Mabo Decision which overturned the legal concept of terra nullius in Australia. The novels are Wright’s Plains of Promise (1997), Carpentaria (2006) and The Swan Book (2013); and Scott’s Benang: From the heart (1999) and That Deadman Dance (2010). Drawing on ecocriticism, it examines their portrayal of two conflicting conceptions of land: Aboriginal conceptions of land as ‘Country’, a vibrant ecological system with agency to which humans belong; and western constructions of land as inert property owned by humans to be developed for profit. It argues that the novels privilege the former over the latter understanding of land and in so doing rewrite the continent as ‘black land’. Through its focus on ‘black land’ this thesis reintroduces ‘landscape’ to Australian literary criticism and shows it to be of new significance in the twenty-first century, and argues this has implications for a planet faced with climate change and other ecological crises.

Six Capitals and Country Manifest are related by their mutual engagement with questions about the value of the natural world and human conceptions of it. In both economic constructions of nature are shown to be damaging to the natural world and complicit in contemporary ecological crises.

The 'whispering gallery' effect has been known since ancient times for sound waves in air 1,2 , later in water and more recently for a broad range of electromagnetic waves: radio, optics, Roentgen and so on 3-6. It consists of wave localization near a curved reflecting surface and is expected for waves of various natures, for instance, for atoms 7,8 and neutrons 9. For matter waves, it would include a new feature: a massive particle would be settled in quantum states, with parameters depending on its mass. Here, we present for the first time the quantum whispering-gallery effect for cold neutrons. This phenomenon provides an example of an exactly solvable problem analogous to the 'quantum bouncer' 10 ; it is complementary to the recently discovered gravitationally bound quantum states of neutrons 11. These two phenomena provide a direct demonstration of the weak equivalence principle for a massive particle in a pure quantum state 12. Deeply bound whispering-gallery states are long-living and weakly sensitive to surface potential; highly excited states are short-living and very sensitive to the wall potential shape. Therefore, they are a promising tool for studying fundamental neutron-matter interactions 13-15 , quantum neutron optics and surface physics effects 16-18. The classical whispering-gallery phenomenon can be understood in terms of geometrical optics. Thus, neutron Garland trajectories with a high probability of specular reflection have been observed in curved neutron guides 19 and frequently used in neutron experiments. Elliptical focusing neutron guides using a single reflection are available in commerce. Sound can be reflected in an elliptical chamber from one focus to the other one after 'a single bounce'. A more complex phenomenon consists of wave localization in the vicinity of curved surfaces, also called the whispering-gallery effect. Owing to such localization, the sound can reach a person on the opposite side of a building, or even complete a circle, imitating an 'echo'. Lord Rayleigh explained and described quantitatively this phenomenon in his 'Theory of sound' 1,2. He verified the theory using a whistle as a sound source and burning candles as the sound intensity 'detectors'. Whales are believed to communicate over long distances, profiting from a similar effect in surface layers of sea water. The electromagnetic whispering-gallery waves from radio to light ('glory' or 'heiligenschein') and Roentgen frequencies are of ever-growing interest 3-6 owing to their multiple applications. They are also known as 'Mie scattering' in light scattering from aerosols and in nuclear physics. An optical analogue of a quantum particle bouncing on a hard surface under the influence of gravity or centrifugal potential has been demonstrated recently using a circularly curved optical waveguide 20. In all of these cases, a curved mirror acts as a waveguide; and interference of the waves falling to the mirror and those reflected causes specific stationary whispering-gallery modes. For a material wave in a quantum limit 7-9 , a new feature would appear: radial motion of a massive object would be settled in quantum states, with parameters depending on its mass. At

Cosmological discoveries over the past century have completely changed our picture of our place in the universe. New observations have a realistic chance of probing nature on heretofore unimaginable scales, and as a result are changing the nature of fundamental science. Perhaps no other domain of science has an equal capacity to completely change our perspective of the world in which we live.

This paper describes the Oksapmin representations of land ownership related to the frame of the water use permit payment process, engaged by Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) as a consequence of the ecological impact of the mine operations on the Lagaip-Strickland basin. Even if the Oksapmin society has been fully evangelized during the last two generations, the landowners have recently stressed the pre-contact exegesis in the claims against that foreign mining company. In this essay the author formulates the hypothesis that the claims to the former animist beliefs may be a social strategy to manage land ownership. This strategy provokes, on the side of private companies, a monetary compensation for the « eco-cultural » impact of mining operations. The land issues focus today on the rediscovery of tradition in order to integrate it to modernity. Tradition then acquires a new original rule in contemporary society. The water spirits and the river sacred sites are re-interpreted and perceived as the guardians of land rights, held by mythical actors at the beginning of time.

In een proloog ('Wat vooraf gaat') wordt, in 1984, een zesjarige jongen in zijn droom bezocht door een figuur die zegt zijn latere ik te zijn. In deel 1 (gesitueerd in 1999) worden de belangrijkste personen van het verhaal geïntroduceerd, van wie Etzel Aksma de spil is. Het dorp E*** waarin hij woont krijgt twee nieuwe bewoners die een oude directeurswoning betrekken. Ze blijken broer en zus te zijn, Gundula en Balder Ingelant. De zus is een rijzige elegante gestalte die buitenshuis steevast door haar twee honden wordt vergezeld. Balder is een geschiedenisstudent aan de universiteit, die zich altijd zelfverzekerd in regenjas in het dorp vertoont. Tussen Balder Ingelant en Etzel Aksma ontwikkelt zich een verborgen jaloezie, en naar Gundula koestert Etzel een heimelijk verlangen, dat belemmerd wordt door een onoverkoombaar ontzag. Etzel zet een discotheek op in een oude lijnwerkplaats, die nog allerlei spoorlijnen en treinwagons om zich heen herbergt. Dit wordt een ontmoetingsplaats voor de jeugd rond E*** en de naburige grotere stad H***. Er worden veel hallucinerende trips ondernomen, die een centrale rol in het verhaal gaan vervullen, omdat deze de personages naar ongeziene verten meenemen. Maar niet alleen de trips. Ook het zogenoemde Elzenbos leidt tot hallucinerende vergezichten, waarin lang vergeten figuren de nog levende soortgenoten adviseren, bespelen en verwarren. De trips leiden uiteindelijk tot de dood van Ingelant, die in een lege vuilnistrein wordt gegooid en op een vuilnisbelt de dood vindt. Of toch niet? Na omzwervingen komt hij na een bezoek aan een oude wijze kater terecht bij een vreemd wezen:

Using Euclidean quantum gravity of path integral formalism and use of Robertson Walker metric(RW) I calculate the contribution of matter density to the fluctuating metric. This method rather leads to the observed cosmological constant without any need of fine tuning in the gravity and the particle physics model. this straightforward approach is very much useful and it is justified for all points of view.

The methods of effective field theory are used to study generic theories of inflation with a single inflaton field and to perform a general analysis of the associated non-Gaussianities. We investigate the amplitudes and shapes of the various generic three-point correlators, the bispectra, which may be generated by different classes of single-field inflationary models. Besides the well-known results for the DBI-like models and the ghost inflationary theories, we point out that curvature-related interactions may give rise to large non-Gaussianities in the form of bispectra characterized by a flat shape which, quite interestingly, is independently produced by several interaction terms. In a subsequent work, we will perform a similar general analysis for the non-Gaussianities generated by the generic four-point correlator, the trispectrum.

Scanning probe microscopies (SPM) and cantilever-based sensors generally use low-frequency mechanical devices of microscale dimensions or larger. Almost universally, off-chip methods are used to sense displacement in these devices, but this approach is not suitable for nanoscale devices. Nanoscale mechanical sensors offer a greatly enhanced performance that is unattainable with microscale devices. Here we describe the fabrication and operation of self-sensing nanocantilevers with fundamental mechanical resonances up to very high frequencies (VHF). These devices use integrated electronic displacement transducers based on piezoresistive thin metal films, permitting straightforward and optimal nanodevice readout. This non-optical transduction enables applications requiring previously inaccessible sensitivity and bandwidth, such as fast SPM and VHF force sensing. Detection of 127 MHz cantilever vibrations is demonstrated with a thermomechanical-noise-limited displacement sensitivity of 39 fm Hz 21/2 . Our smallest devices, with dimensions approaching the mean free path at atmospheric pressure, maintain high resonance quality factors in ambient conditions. This enables chemisorption measurements in air at room temperature, with unprecedented mass resolution less than 1 attogram (10 218 g).

The well-known Regge-Wheeler equation describes the axial perturbations of Schwarzschild metric in the linear approximation. From a mathematical point of view it presents a particular case of the confluent Heun equation and can be solved exactly, due to recent mathematical developments. We present the basic properties of its general solution. A novel analytical approach and numerical techniques for study the boundary problems which correspond to quasi-normal modes of black holes and other simple models of compact objects are developed.

In this paper we study scalar perturbations of the metric for nonlinear f(R) models. We consider the Universe at the late stage of its evolution and deep inside the cell of uniformity. We investigate the astrophysical approach in the case of Minkowski spacetime background and two cases in the cosmological approach, the large scalaron mass approximation and the quasi-static approximation, getting explicit expressions for scalar perturbations for both these cases. In the most interesting quasi-static approximation, the scalar perturbation functions depend on both the nonlinearity function f(R) and the scale factor a. Hence, we can study the dynamical behavior of the inhomogeneities (e.g., galaxies and dwarf galaxies) including into consideration their gravitational attraction and the cosmological expansion, and also taking into account the effects of nonlinearity.
