This is an 18-page document which includes summaries of about 30 research projects carried out in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Palestine (Occupied), Lebanon, and Jordan. They were undertaken in cooperation with European Partners. The 13th Symposium (www.ifsa2018.gr) was hosted in the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICH), Crete, Greece, by the Lab. of Agricultural Extension, Rural Systems & Rural Sociology, Dept. of Agricultural Economics & Rural Development, Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). It was co-organised by the Regional Unit of Chania and supported by the Geotechnical Chambers of Greece and the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation ELGO DIMITRA. It was also supported by the Journals Open Agriculture, International Journal of Agricultural Extension, African Journal of Agricultural Research and JAEE as media partners with the two first Journals organizing Special Issues comprising selected papers from the Symposium.

Abstract: The two capitals Vienna (Austria) and Bratislava (Slovakia) form a unique region. They have been separated by the Iron Curtain for decades. The Slovak accession to the EU in 2004 ended the enforced isolation and created a bi-polar region populated by about 3 million inhabitants (1.6 million of them in Vienna and 400,000 in the city of Bratislava). The distance between Vienna and Bratislava is only about 60 kilometres or a roughly one hours ride. Therefore every decision made in one city has a significant influence on the other. As well politicians as the business community agree to the importance of co-ordinated development and cooperation within the region. Several initiatives were and are started off by associations like the Viennese and the Slovak Chambers of Commerce. Many cross-boarder projects are co-financed by the European Union. Abstract: Transport and communication are the pivots of the socio-economical development and, in particular, of the tourism increase, in such a peripheral area as Sicily. The most recent changes in the transport sector are: a) the creation of integrated trans-national networks, based on specific systems such as the inter-modality transport one and the hub and spoke one; b) the solution of the conflicts between transport development and environmental impact. These changes lead to the constitution of global logistics networks which encourage the competitiveness between regions and local systems. In this paper the authors focus on the measures Sicily has adopted to cope with the effects of these changes and to modify its economy in the context of the EuroMediterranean area. Because of the rapid evolution of the electronic market phenomenon, there is a growing and diffusing interest to consider the Web economy as a new source for the enterprise competitive advantage. In this paper, the focus is on the Web economy impact on the enterprise learning and innovation processes. To this end, our analysis looks at the following issues: • the meanings of the new enterprise, characterized as an interactive, internetworked and virtual entity; • the analysis of some significant case studies, in order to understand the dynamics of the enterprise value system in the Extranet environments; • a rethinking of some concepts related to the agglomeration economies and to the innovation production and diffusion spatial context.

The territory of the Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries mostly belongs to the Continental and Pannonian Bio-geographical Regions. Specific and extreme changes in the weather resulting from the very nature of these Regions can be expected in the near future, and adaptation in agriculture and the bioeconomy is a challenge. Furthermore, in many of these countries the current levels of research, innovation, cooperation and lobbying are substantially below the European Union (EU) average, and this research and innovation divide in Europe hinders both the unlocking of excellence in the CEE region and the development of the European Research Area.
