The flag carrier of Uganda, Uganda Airlines, is set to introduce flights to two new destinations in Southern Africa. The airline announced today (17 July 2024) that it will launch scheduled flights to Lusaka in Zambia and Harare in Zimbabwe on 25 September 2024. Uganda Airlines will operate four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays between its main hub at Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka as well as RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare. The airline will be using its Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft on the route.

Malawi: Malawi Airlines is planning to introduce new routes to three African countries!
According to news reports from Malawi, the flag carrier of the country, Malawi Airlines, is planning to launch new routes to three African countries. The marketing mangager of the airline, Only Taulo, told local reporters recently that Malawi Airlines will introduce new services to Rwanda, Mozambique and Uganda. Flights to Kigali in Rwanda as well as Nampula and Pemba in Mozambique will "soon" be introduced, while the launch of flights to Uganda is expected to take place towards the end of 2024. South Africa: Airlink has discontinued flights to Uganda!
South African regional carrier Airlink has canceled its service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe, Uganda, at the end of August 2023. According to the airline, it discontinued the route due to persistent commercial unviability. Airlink has contacted ticket-holders and is offering to refund in full or re-route on one of its daily flights between Johannesburg and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi with onward connections to Entebbe.
Uganda's national carrier, Uganda Airlines, will close the gap by increasing frequency on the Entebbe <> Johannesburg route from five weekly flights to daily starting 01 October 2023.

Uganda: Uganda Airlines set to launch its first intercontinental route!
The flag carrier of Uganda, Uganda Airlines, is set to launch the first intercontinental route on the airline’s network. Effective 04 October 2021, Uganda Airlines introduces a three-weekly service between Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe and Dubai International Airport (DXB) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Flights will be operated on board an Airbus A330-800neo. Uganda Airlines recently successfully got the aircraft included on its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) fleet listing. The airline is planning to launch other international and long-haul routes such as London in the UK and Guangzhou in China in the near future. We'll keep you posted!

Emirates to allow "eligible" travellers from South Africa and Zambia to transit in Dubai!
According to a travel update by Emirates, United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities have announced that effective 05 August 2021 “eligible customers” from South Africa
and Zambia will be allowed to transit in Dubai and "eligible" travellers
from Uganda will be allowed to travel to/through the UAE. It is
currently not known what the "eligible" criteria will be. We'll keep you posted!
According to an earlier announcement by the airline, the South Africa route suspension remains in place until 07 August 2021. Daily passenger flights to OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg will operate as EK763, however, outbound passenger services on EK 764 remain suspended.

South Africa: Airlink to launch flights between Johannesburg <> Entebbe! [update]

South African privately-owned regional carrier Airlink has announced that it will introduce a new service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe, Uganda. Effective 19 July 2021, the airline will operate four weekly return flights to Uganda's main international airport. Flight 4Z 190 will depart Johannesburg at 21:15 and arrive in Entebbe at 02:30 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The return flight (4Z 191) will depart Entebbe at 03:30 and arrive Johannesburg at 07:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Airlink’s fares include a 20kg free economy class checked in luggage allowance plus a 15kg sporting equipment allowance. Onboard, passengers are offered a complimentary light meal, refreshments, generous leg room and a choice of aisle or window seat (flights do not have middle seats).

Uganda Airlines to launch flights between Entebbe <> Johannesburg!
The flag carrier airline of Uganda, Uganda Airlines, is set to launch flights to Johannesburg in South Africa. Effective 31 May 2021, the airline will operate four weekly direct flights between Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. Flights to Johannesburg will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while the return flights to Entebbe will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Uganda: The Uganda Wildlife Association cuts park entrance fees and gorilla & chimpanzee tracking fees!
The Uganda Wildlife Association (UWA) has announced temporary changes in its pricing for visits to wildlife centres, including a reduction on gorilla and chimpanzee tracking fees, across Uganda. Between 01 December 2020 and 31 March 2021, the UWA will be running a festive season price discount to manage the impacts of Covid-19 and reward their visitors for their continued support. The following discounts haven been offered with effect from 01 December 2020:
- 50% discount on entrance fees for the following National Parks in Uganda:
- Lake Mburo National Park
- Queen Elizabeth National Park
- Kidepo Valley National Park
- Murchison Falls National Park
- Semuliki National Park
- Toro Semliki Wildlife Reserve

The reduction on gorilla and chimpanzee fees only applies to new purchases between 01 December 2020 and 31 March 2021 and not on reschedules of already deposited on permits or purchases using credit letters.

Uganda: Uganda Airlines to resume operations!
Uganda's flag carrier, Uganda Airlines, has announced the resumption of international flights. Effective 01 October 2020, the airline will restart its service with scheduled return flights from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi, Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, Juba Airport (JUB) in Juba and Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) in Mogadishu. At a later stage, Uganda Airlines will also resume flights to Bujumbura, Kilimanjaro, Mombasa and Zanzibar. The airline also plans to launch scheduled operations to Kinshasa, Lusaka, Harare and Johannesburg. We'll keep you posted!

Uganda: Entebbe International Airport reopens on 01 October 2020! [update]
update (17 September 2020): Qatar Airways has confirmed that it will resume flights between Hamad International Airport (DOH) in Doha and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe. Effective 02 October 2020, the airline will operate three weekly return flights to Entebbe.
Uganda's international airport, Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe, is set to reopen on 01 October 2020 after nearly five months of closure over the coronavirus pandemic. According to a preliminary three-month schedule (effective 01 October 2020) published by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), the country's national airline Uganda Airlines and various international airlines, such as Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, Air Tanzania, Ethiopian Airlines, FlyDubai, RwandAir, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Emirates and Brussels Airlines, are planning to resume flights to Uganda. Uganda: Uganda Wildlife Authority re-introduces Rothschild giraffes to Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve!
The UWA last year translocated 92 Impalas into Pian Upe Wildlife Resort, while its efforts to protect the wildlife in the resort aLso resulted in significantly increased numbers of e.g. Roan Antelope, Eland, Zebra, Hartebeest and Cheetah.
Through enhancing the conservation value of Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve the UWA hopes not just to resore and manage viable populations of extict or endangered species, but also to increase tourism in the region and create other benefits such as employment, sale of food and crafts as well as accommodation, increased revenue sharing and other indirect economic benefits.
The Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve is located in the northeastern semi-arid part of Uganda, spanning a land area of 2,043km². It is undisputedly the largest wildlife reserve in the country and the second largest protected area in Uganda, after the Murchison Falls National Park in northwest Uganda.

Kenya Airways & Oman Air have extended their codeshare agreement!
The following destinations will be added, subject to government and regulatory approvals for Oman Air passengers traveling beyond Nairobi to Dar Es Salam, Tanzania and for Kenya Airways passengers travelling beyond Muscat to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the Indian cities of Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi and Hyderabad.
Oman Air and Kenya Airways commenced their codeshare agreement covering services between Muscat and Nairobi in August 2017.

Uganda: Uganda Airlines to commence operations in August 2019! [update]
update (31 July 2019): In the first phase, Uganda Airlines plans to launch flights to Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Mogadishu, Kilimanjaro, Mombasa, Bujumbura and Juba. In the second phase, the airline will link Entebbe International Airport (EBB) with destinations like Kigali, Goma, Lusaka, Harare and Johannesburg.
update (29 July 2019): Uganda Airlines is set tp commence operations on 28 August 2019 after having secured its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) on 25 July 2019.
update (19 July 2019): According to a statement to parliament by Uganda's Works and Transport Minister Hon. Monica Azuba (18 July 2019), Uganda Airlines' launch date will most likely be postponed to August 2019 due to the late audit completion for the airline’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and the subsequent delay of securing the IATA two letter code. update (12 June 2019): Uganda Airline's first flight will be from Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi, Kenya. The airline received two Bombardier CRJ900s in April 2019; the other two Bombardier CRJ900s are expected in July 2019 and September 2019.
According to the Uganda Media Centre, the official centre for public pommunications of Uganda's government, Uganda Airlines' first two Bombardier CRJ 900 aircrafts are set to arrive in Uganda on 23 April 2019. Once the country's new startup national carrier has received the two aircrafts, a five phase process to get the all-important and mandatory Air Operator Certificate (AOC) needs to be completed. This process usually takes 90 days, so that Uganda Airlines will presumably commence operations in late July 2019. Before flights officially commence, the airline also has to fulfill Civil Aviation Authority of Uganda's (CAA) mandatory requirements. These include proper operating premises, trained staff, maintenance providers, tools and equipment as well as structures, processes and systems to enable safe and secure operation of international commercial flights. Uganda: Uganda Wildlife Authority scrapped guided nature walk fees to view Sempaya Hot springs in Semuliki National Park!
Semuliki National Park is located in westen Uganda. The Park's Sempaya Gate is 59 km from Fort Portal, while the headquarters of the National Park at Ntandi is 6 km further along the road. Semuliki National Park was founded in 1993 and covers an area of 220km². It is one of the richest areas of floral and faunal diversity in Africa and home to 441 recorded bird species and 53 mammals.
We have scrapped guided nature walk fees to view Sempaya Hot springs in Semuliki National Park. Visitors will only pay park entrance fees and no further charges to view the hot springs. We hope this will improve visitor experience in the park.— Uganda Wildlife (@ugwildlife) January 21, 2019
