Definitions
- the present invention relates to a high capacity negative electrode active material and a lithium secondary battery including the same. More particularly, the alkali metavanadate includes 50 wt% or more based on the total weight of the negative electrode active material, and the alkali metavanadate is crystalline.
- the present invention relates to a negative electrode active material having a phase or amorphous phase and having a composition of AVO 3 and a lithium secondary battery including the same.
- Lithium secondary batteries used as power sources for electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) have high energy density and high power output in a short time, and under severe conditions where charging and discharging by a large current is repeated in a short time. Since it should be able to be used for more than 10 years, it is inevitably required to have superior safety and long life characteristics than conventional small lithium secondary batteries.
- the lithium secondary battery used as a large-capacity power storage device has to have a high energy density and efficiency and a long lifespan.
- a system malfunctions due to high performance and high capacity fire or explosion accidents are linked to large accidents, resulting in safety and reliability. Securing is a particularly important task.
- a negative electrode of a conventional lithium secondary battery is a carbon-based compound capable of intercalation and detachment of reversible lithium ions while maintaining structural and electrical properties as a negative electrode active material.
- the carbon-based compound has a very low discharge potential of about -3V with respect to the standard hydrogen electrode potential, exhibits a very reversible charge and discharge behavior due to the uniaxial orientation of the graphite layer, thereby resulting in an excellent electrode It exhibits a cycle life and also has a higher potential when constructing an oxide-based anode and cell because the electrode potential during charging of Li ions can exhibit a potential almost similar to that of pure lithium metal as 0 V Li / Li + . It has the advantage of obtaining energy.
- the negative electrode made of such a carbon-based compound has the following problems.
- the carbon-based compound has a theoretical maximum capacity of 372 mAh / g, which is limited in capacity increase, making it difficult to play a sufficient role as an energy source for a rapidly changing next-generation mobile device.
- thermodynamic reactions when more lithium is charged than the amount of lithium that can be received from the negative electrode due to overcharging of the battery, the temperature rises and an exothermic reaction occurs. This is the earliest reaction among the thermodynamic reactions occurring inside the battery. As one of them, it can be a main trigger such as explosion of battery ignition.
- the hydrophobic electrode surface has a profound effect on the electrode wetting of the electrolyte during battery production, and this electrode wetting time affects the productivity of the battery.
- Silicon one of such alloy-based anode materials, has a theoretical maximum capacity of about 3580 mAh / g, which is a great advantage over graphite-based materials, and tin has a very large capacity of 990 mAh / g.
- transition metal oxide-based negative electrode active material composed of transition metals is also attracting attention.
- transition metal oxide-based negative electrode active material vanadium oxide and lithium vanadate-based materials are used as positive and negative electrode materials of a lithium secondary battery. Has been studied.
- Vanadium-based materials that have been studied as positive electrode active materials include V 2 O 5 and LiV 3 O 8 , but the materials have low reaction voltages for use as positive electrode active materials for lithium secondary batteries, and lithium metal is used as a negative electrode. Since it must be used, it is difficult to use it as a positive electrode material of the actual battery.
- lithium vanadium phosphate, lithium vanadium fluorine phosphate, etc. which have increased the reaction voltage by using the inductive effect of the multiple anion system, has been actively studied as a cathode material.
- the crystalline V 2 O 5 shows a phenomenon that the structure is damaged and the capacity decreases as the cycle progresses, and thus, the crystalline V 2 O 5 has a disadvantage in that it is used as a negative electrode active material.
- synthesizing V 2 O 5 as amorphous research is being conducted.
- Li 1-x V 1 + x O 2 based materials having the same layered structure as LiCoO 2 most commonly used as a positive electrode active material exhibit capacity in a low voltage region below 0.5V compared to lithium.
- LiCoO 2 most commonly used as a positive electrode active material
- the material has a distinct limitation that it has a reversible capacity of about 200 mAh / g, which is inferior to that of graphite, and such a low reversible capacity is due to the fact that vanadium in Li 1-x V 1 + x O 2 material is reduced. It is thought to be because it already exists in trivalent and stores lithium and is no longer reduced.
- LiMVO 4 and MV 2 O 6 + ⁇ may express very large capacities compared to the vanadium-based negative electrode active materials listed above.
- some prior art discloses a technique for adding a small amount of vanadium oxides to the carbon-based compound to solve the above problems, but the trace-added vanadium oxide is an inert material that does not store lithium in the carbon-based compound As it is recognized as increasing the diffusion rate of lithium ions, only a partial increase in capacity in the low voltage region, and has a fundamental limitation due to the low reversible capacity of the carbon-based compound.
- the present invention aims to solve the problems of the prior art as described above and the technical problems that have been requested from the past.
- the inventors of the present application through in-depth studies and many experiments, to solve the problem of the lithium secondary battery using the transition metal oxide-based negative electrode material described above, the alkali metavanadate to express a large capacity per unit weight at a low reaction potential negative electrode When used as a material, it has been found that the capacity and energy density of a lithium secondary battery can be increased, and the present invention has been completed.
- an object of the present invention is to include an alkali metavanadate of a specific composition as a main component of the negative electrode active material, thereby increasing the reactivity with lithium by amorphization of the alkali metavanadate in the first charging process, and thus the previous transition metal. It is to provide a secondary battery that can increase the voltage of the entire battery by expressing a high capacity at a low reaction potential that was not expressed in the oxide-based negative electrode active material and can greatly improve the energy density of the battery.
- the alkali metavanadate containing 50% by weight or more based on the total weight of the negative electrode active material, the alkali metavanadate has a crystalline phase or an amorphous phase, It provides a negative electrode active material having a composition of 1.
- A is an alkali metal element which is at least one of Li, Na, and K.
- the amorphous alkali metavanatate may be present in the form of a compound or mixture of AVO 3 and P 2 O 5 , wherein the P 2 O 5 is 1 to 30 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of AVO 3. It may include.
- Alkali metabanatei of the amorphous phase can be confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, the amorphous phase is X-ray diffraction analysis at 0.01 degrees intervals from 10 degrees to 80 degrees at a scanning speed of 1 degree / minute to 16 degrees / minute per minute When measured by, the signal-to-noise ratio is less than 50 compared to the noise appearing at the baseline.
- the crystalline alkali metavanadate may be advantageously prepared without impurities, but in the case of the amorphous alkali metavanadate, the diffusion of the material is advantageous and the volume change during charge and discharge is small, resulting in stable charge and discharge. It can be advantageous.
- the charging voltage of the negative electrode active material may be performed to less than 1.5V relative to the reduction potential of lithium ions based on the negative electrode.
- the reversible capacity of the negative electrode active material is 400 mAh / g or more.
- the reversible capacity of the negative electrode active material is 400 mAh / g or more.
- the reversible capacity of the negative electrode active material is 400 mAh / g or more, vanadium ( V) It is possible to reversibly store three or more lithium elements per element.
- the alkali metavanadate (AVO 3 ) anode active material according to the present invention is crystalline V 2 O 5 because the structure is reversibly maintained while changing to amorphous during the charging process even if the charging is started in the crystalline state.
- Reversible capacity reduction is lower than that of vanadium and the vanadium is a pentavalent oxidation state in the AVO 3 material, which has a reaction voltage near 0 V relative to the lithium reduction potential, and stores more lithium than the LiVO 2 series material. This allows greater capacity per unit weight and energy density of over 1,000 mAh / g, depending on the material.
- such alkali metavanadate-based negative electrode active material has a characteristic that is discharged with a gentle slope without a flat portion during discharge, and this characteristic has a linear relationship of voltage to residual capacity. Since the battery has only a voltage, it is easy and accurate to estimate the remaining capacity of the battery.
- the alkali metavanatate may be included in an amount of 50 wt% or more based on the total weight of the negative electrode active material.
- the content of the alkali metavanadate is smaller than that, the capacity and energy density per unit weight are desired. It cannot be implemented.
- the content of the alkali metavanatate may be 50 to 100% by weight in detail, and more specifically 60 to 100% by weight.
- other compounds or polymers known as anode active materials in the art may be included.
- Examples thereof include carbon such as non-graphitizable carbon and graphite carbon; Li x Fe 2 O 3 (0 ⁇ x ⁇ 1), Li x WO 2 (0 ⁇ x ⁇ 1), Sn x Me 1-x Me ' y O z (Me: Mn, Fe, Pb, Ge; Me' Metal complex oxides such as Al, B, P, Si, Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 elements of the periodic table, halogen, 0 ⁇ x ⁇ 1; 1 ⁇ y ⁇ 3; 1 ⁇ z ⁇ 8); Lithium metal; Lithium alloys; Silicon-based alloys; Tin-based alloys; SnO, SnO 2 , PbO, PbO 2 , Pb 2 O 3 , Pb 3 O 4 , Sb 2 O 3 , Sb 2 O 4 , Sb 2 O 5 , GeO, GeO 2 , Bi 2 O 3 , Bi 2 O 4 , and metal oxides such as Bi 2 O 5 ; Conductive polymers such
- the average particle diameter of the said alkali metavanadate is 1-30 micrometers, Specifically, 5-20 micrometers is preferable. If the average particle diameter of the alkali metavanadate is too small, the manufacturing process of the electrode is complicated, if too large, the diffusion distance of lithium is long, there is a disadvantage that the speed characteristic is lowered.
