Abstract
A binding that may be adjusted quickly to the length of a boot is disclosed. The binding comprises two bearing plates (2, 3) engageable by the boot sole and attached to a base (1) which is in turn attachable to a snowboard. The bearing plates (2, 3) and the base (1) together define two recesses for receiving two sliding blocks (14, 18). Yokes (4, 5) for retaining the toe and heel portions of the boot are attached to the sliding blocks. Said sliding blocks are longitudinally movable relative to the base (1) by means of threaded rods that may be rotated by inserting a screwdriver into the ends (7) of the rods. Said binding is very compact and completely secured against the loss of a sliding block.
Description
The subject of the invention is a snowboard binding. Snowboarding, also known as snowboarding, is an elongated more or less flexible board intended to slide on snow.
Snowboards are expensive relative to the time they are used. In addition, during the period when they are not used they are bulky. For these reasons many occasional athletes prefer to rent snowboards rather than buying them. The current bindings can be used with several types of shoes. However, a problem appeared with regard to the adjustment of the length of the fastener.
Indeed, current fasteners have relatively complicated adjustment possibilities. Most surfboard attachments require the disassembly of several screws and the movement of notched parts. These devices are not satisfactory, firstly because it takes a long time to make a change, and secondly because the adjustment is not very precise.
To improve the bindings of surfboards, a binding has been devised comprising a base comprising at the front part and at the rear part a rail on which slides slides to which stirrups are fixed to hold the shoe. The position of the slide being adjusted by means of a threaded rod on which is placed a nut linked to the slide. If this fixing overcomes the drawbacks due to length adjustment, it is not satisfactory in terms of safety. Because the slide has the shape of a capital omega, in other terms the slide to an open form. This results in a deformation of the rail and the slide from which the slide can escape from the rail, even without breaking one of the elements. Another defect presented by this fixing is that the sliders can take positions such that one of their parts is beyond the base. This means that when fitting the binding, if this is not taken into account, shoes of large sizes may exceed the edge of the board.
The object of the invention is to provide a binding which does not have the defects of existing bindings. These objects are achieved with the snowboard binding defined in claim i.
The invention will be better understood on reading the description of an embodiment given by way of example by looking at the drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the embodiment of the surf binding according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows an exploded view of the binding shown in Figure 1 seen from above.
Figure 3 shows an exploded view of the binding shown in Figure 1 seen from below.
As can be seen in FIG. 1, the binding according to the invention represents a compact assembly having a shape which is pleasant to look at. The binding comprises a base plate 1, also known as a base, intended to be fixed to the upper surface of a snowboard. The mounting of the base 1 is done by means of the plate 26 which has holes 23 intended to receive fixing screws, not shown. The circular plate 26 is independent of the base 1 and has a flange with grooves. We find identical grooves on the base 1 which allows to orient the fixing in the desired manner. This device is known and is found on existing fasteners, which is why it has not been shown.
The binding has support plates 2 and 3 for the shoe. These bearing plates in the embodiment are screwed onto the base 1 by means of screws introduced into the holes 13 and 21 (See FIG. 2 and 3). The support plates 2 and 3 and the base 1 define housings in which slide the slides 14 and 18. On the slides are fixed stirrups 4 and 5 intended to hold the shoe on the support plates. These stirrups are held in position by springs in a known manner (not shown). The stirrup 4 intended to receive the front of the shoe comprises a lever 6 intended to be blocked on the front edge of the sole of the shoe.
In Figure 2 we see that the base 1 is elongated like a shoe sole. This base 1 has at its front part, that is to say that intended to receive the front of the shoe, recesses 30 and 31 which, when the support plates 2 and 3 are in place, define the housings in which move the slides 14 and 18 respectively. The slides 14 and 18 have a length substantially equal to the width of the recesses 30 and 31 so that in their displacement in the longitudinal direction of the base i they cannot get across or get caught. In addition, the slides have at their upper part grooves 17 in which are placed the ribs 27 and 28 (see Figure 3) of the support plate 2 respectively of the support plate 3. At their ends the slides 14 and 18 have open housings 15 in which the stirrups are arranged. The housings 15 are closed by the base 1 when the slides are placed in the recesses 30 and 31.
Each slide has in its middle a housing 16 into which is inserted a nut 8 held so that it cannot rotate. Said nut 8 respectively 25 being free to move on a threaded rod 10 respectively 11, which is disposed on the base 1 in recesses 12 and 22. Each threaded rod 10 and 11 has a head 7. The head 7 has means to rotate it, for example a slot, a cross recess or a nut.
The support plates 2 and 3 have at their front and rear part recesses 29 which when the plates are fixed on the base 1 form housings for the heads 7 of the threaded rods 10 and it. The part of the threaded rods opposite their head 7 can be constituted by a nut 9 fixed in rotation on the rod. The assembly constituted by the slides, the threaded rods with their nuts constitute a sure means of positioning the stirrups, without there being a risk that the slides escape from their housing. In Figure 4 we will better understand the operation of the binding. Indeed, the shoe 30 is held at the front by the stirrup 4 by means of the lever 6 and at the rear by the stirrup 5. The adjustment will be made by means of a screwdriver on the heads 7 of the threaded screws 10 and 11 so as to move the slides 14 and 18 to the length of the shoe 30. The support plates 2 and 3 remaining fixed, the operation is facilitated.
The fixing according to the invention can be made of light metal, for example aluminum alloy or synthetic material of suitable strength.
It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this surf binding, which has been described above by way of example, but embraces all of the variant embodiments, in particular in which relates to the shape of the base of the support plates or of the material used for the production.
