UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED W. ANDREWS, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO ANDREWS WIRE AND IRON WORKS, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
SINK-STRAINER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED WV. .ANDREWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of lVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sink-Strainers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a holder for a sink strainer which will engage the edge of a sink in order to hold the strainer in its relation to the sink.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of a sink strainer with my improved holder in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is an underface representation of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the same.
The sink strainer 1 shown in the accompanying drawings is of a well known construction and is provided with the side ledges 2 which are adapted to rest on the edge of a. sink and my improvements have to do with the holding of the strainer in its connection with the sink. The ledges 2 are each formed with two openings 3 and 4t suitably spaced in the lengthwise direction thereof.
A holder is formed of wire and comprises the loop 5 held in proper form by the twisted section 6, and from these twisted sections the branches 7 diverge, each having a portion 8 located at substantially right angles to the length of a branch, and has its free end formed with a hook 9.
In applying the holder to the sink strainer, the hooks 9 are passed upwardly through the openings 3 and 4 in one of the ledges 2 and turned into the position shown in the draw- Specification of Letters Patent.

ings. The loop 5 is then placed around the bottom of the strainer which will form a firm connection of the support with the strainer. The portions 8 rest 011 top of the ledge which will present the hooks downward with their free ends pointing toward the strainer.
The hooks are adapted to be placed in connection with either ledge of the sink strainer so that it may support the strainer on any portion of the edge of a sink, and if deemed necessary, it can be removed from the strainer in order that the strainers may be more closely packed for shipment.
I claim as my invention.
1. The combination of a sink strainer and a holder therefor comprising a loop portion adapted to embrace the lower end of the strainer, two diverging branches having their ends in hook form, and held in con nection with the upper portion of the strainer.
2. The combination of a sink strainer having a laterally extending edge and a holder for the strainer comprising a loop portion adapted to embrace the lower end of the strainer, two diverging branches having their ends in hook form and held in connection with the ledge of the strainer.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED WV. ANDREWS.
