CLOTHES-PIN.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERBERT E. WILLIAM- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins, of which the following is a specification.-

The present invention relates to a clothes pin for hanging clothes on clothes lines which are supported on, and travel around, pulleys, the object of the invention being to provide a clothes pin to which the clothes can be conveniently and securely connected, which can be easily and securely attached to the clothes line, and which, when so attached, can readily pass, with the clothes line, around a pulley in a pulley block.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an end view of a pulley block on which is a clothes line carrying one of my improved pins; Fig. 2 is a side view, of the pin detached, on an enlarged scale; Fig. 3 is a view of the pin taken at right angles to Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates an outer wire member and 2 an inner wire member of my improved clothes pin. The inner wire member 2 is considerably shorter than the outer member 1 and has a circular central portion 3 and straight and nearly parallel sides 4:. The outer wire member 1 has also straight parallel side members or hangers 5 spaced apart farther than the sides 4 by slightly more than twice the thickness of the wire, so that, when the inner member 2 is placed between the parallel sides 5 of the outer member 1, as shown in Fig. 2, the sides l are in close proximity to corresponding side members 5. Around the adjacent ends of said members are secured, preferably by solder, the bent ends of a strap 6, thus securing said sides 4 and side members 5 rigidly together.

While all the parts of the inner member are in the same plane, the central portion 7 of the outer member is out of the plane of the hangers 5 and the wire 1 extends from said central portion in right and lefthanded approximately conical spiral curves 8 on opposite sides respectively through more than three-quarters of a full turn to form a two-sided hook, the sides of the hook being extended to form the hangers 5. curved portion 8 of the wire immediately extending therefrom is held the clothes line, shown at 9. The sides of the hook are spaced at all points from the hangers to permit the clothes line to pass transversely into the hook. The curvatures of the curved portions 8 of the wire member and of the central hooked portion 7 are sufliciently large so that the clothes line may be held firmly therein, the central portion being closely adjacent to the outer side of the line and the two portions extending therefrom passing, first, beneath the line and then between the line and the pulley. The curvatures of the parts 10 of the wire between the parts 8 which hold the clothes line and the straight side members 5 are smaller andto the line without threading, and with the clothes thereon, can hang directly beneath the clothes line, no matter at what angle the plane of the pulley is inclined to the vertical.

The clothes are secured to the pin by pressing downward a portion thereof between adjacent sides of the two members, when the clothes will be sufliciently gripped between said sides to prevent their accidental removal.

I claim:

A clothes pin for suspending clothes from a clothes line comprising a wire having portions extending in opposite directions from the center in right and left hand approximately conical spiral curves respectively, through more than three-quarters of a full turn to form a two-sided hook, and then extended to form parallel hangers, and means at the outer ends of said hangers, and cooperating with said wire, for securing clothes thereto. i
