Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIOE.
c. c. JONES, OE PORTLAND, MAINE.
' IMPROVED DOO R-BO LT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 72,302, dated December 17, 1867.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, C. C. JONES, of Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improved Door-Bolt 5 and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to make and use my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l shows a front view ot the case or box, the bolt and spring therein being indicated by dotted lines. Fi g. 2 shows a top plan of the plate, which is secured to the door-sill. Fig. 3 is a side edge view of the saine.
In the. accompanying drawings, a shows the case, having the wings b b', by which the case is secured to the door, as shown, by screws l 2 3 4. c shows the bolt, swinging on pivot d, having the knob e and spring f. y shows a plate, having the aperture It and inclined yportion i, and secured by screws 5 6. There is Aa slot in the top ot' the case at k, to allow'the movement of the shank of the bolt.
The spring f is held in position on the inside ofthe top ot the case by projections m, and the other end of the spring sunk into the recess n in the bolt.
The case a, is intended to be attached to a door at the bottom, on the inside and near the edge.
My boltis also intended to be employed upon .a double door, or, in other words, where two wings till the door-space.
Itis more particularly thepurpose of my invention to obtain a ready method of securing the second door without the trouble of locking or bolting. With this View I attach the plate g to the door-sill, with the inclined part i resting on the inside of the sill. Thus, when the door is shut, the part p of the bolt, striking the inclined portion of the plate g, is pushed. up within the case a until the said part p enters the space h, into which it is pressed by the expansive-power of the spring f.
When the door is to be opened, the foot must be pressed upon the knob e, which raises the part p. Thus my invention is automatic only when the door is closed and the bolt is used G. C. JONES.
Witnesses WM. H. CLIFFORD, HENRY G. HOUSTON.
