'To ALL WHoM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHESTER F. WIKWIRE, of Cortland, in the county of Cortland, andState of New York, have invented a new and useful improvement inWindow-Sash Fasteners or Stops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters o f reference marked thereon. v
a represents a. windowsash. b is a. bent lever nia-de of metal, round in part, and in part flattened, with a toothed or Toughened outer end, e, and a slot, c, through the flattened portion thereof'. t is a knob which screws onto the inner end of the lever. d is a. pin through the sash and through the slot c of the leverb. g is a plate, screwed to the inner edge of the sash, with n. key-hole shaped slot, the upper and larger part of' 'such slot being tted to the roundportion ofthe lever Il, and the lower and narrower portion ofthe slot fitted to the flattened portion of such lever. A mortise is made through the sash to receivethe lever. i l
The sash is represented as down and fastened, the end o of the lever tting into a slot in the window-frame. To loosen or unfasten the window, pull the lever out from the snsh. It slides readily on the pin d. The saslr` can now be raised to any desired point, but it will not fall, as when it commences to descend the long end of the lever b drops in the slot at g, 'and the roughened end e catches upon the frame and acts as a. cam, holding the sash in position. On raising the knob h, or longv end of che lever, the cum is loosened, and the sash may be dropped again. When it is down and desired to be fastened, the lever is pushed in until the round "portion is within its part of the slot g, and the sash must stay in this position, as the lever cannot move up or down until it is unlocked by being pulled out.v i i By makind mortises in the window-frame at other points for the end elet' the lever, the sash may in the same way be locked at those points.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The slotted bent lever b, operating upon the pin ,-for the lpurpose of holding the sash in position when raised.
2. I claim the slotted lever b, in'czombination with the slotted plate y, for the purpose of locking or permanently fasteningthe sash when down, or locking it atany particular point.
C. F. WICKWIRE.
