IMPROVEM ENT IN CUTLERY.

Speciiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,099, dated July 3, 1866.

To all whom it may concern.'

Beit known that I, WILLIAM W. ROBIN- SON, of Ripon, in the county ot Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Mode of Attaching the Handles to Knives and Forks;

and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to thewannexed drawings, made part-,of this specification, in which- 'Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views, showing the inode of construction and attachment.

A represents the blade of an ordinary tableknife. B is the bolster, attached to the blade of the knife or stock ot' the fork by any ot' the ordinary modes of construction. This bolster is formed with tongues C, constituting a part thereof, by riveting, Weldin g, or original construction. These tongues extend the entire length of the handle D on each side, and are rmlysecured thereto by rivets passing through from side to side.

The handle D may be iliade ot' wood, bone,

ivory, or any other substance suited for the purpose, and being stayed on each side by the tongues C, it can neither warp nor become loosened from use.

The flange E, Fig. 2, is secured to the handie by the rivet passing through the bolster.
