Description

M. D. PECK PANTY GIRDLE Oct. 13, 1959 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Filed Sept. 10, 1958 INVENTOR Moxlne D. Peck ATTQRNEW M. D. PECK PANTY GIRDLE Oct. 13, 1959 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Sept. 10. 1958 FIG. 5
INVENTOR Maxine D. Peck United States Patent PANTY GIRDLE Maxine D. Peck, Cortland, N.Y., assignor to Crescent Corset Company, Inc., Cortland, N.Y., a corporation of New York Application September 10,1958, Serial No. 760,223
3 4 Claims. (Cl. 128--525) This invention relates to ladies undergarments, and more particularly to that class of such undergarments known as panty girdles.
The panty girdle is to be distinguished from the garment known as a girdle primarily in that it has leg portions which extend to a greater or lesser extent down upon the thighs of the wearer. By reason of the fact that leg portions are present, a panty girdle is susceptible of maintaining its position upon the body of the wearer more securely than is true with a girdle. The girdle is generally completely open at the bottom and for this reason may ride up or creep down on the torso.
But along with the advantage of firmer positioning of the pantry girdle on the body than is possible with the girdle, a disadvantage accrues through use of the pantry girdle. Briefiy, this is true because the girdle, being open at the bottom, need not be removed for personal use. The panty girdle, on the other hand, as conventionally constructed, must be removed at such times, just as is the case with any trouser-like garment. Attempts have been made in the art to overcome this disadvantage in panty girdles. These attempts have generally been in the nature of providing a crotch portion in the panty girdle which is completely removable therefrom, as by means of releasable fasteners of various types. This expedient has not proved as satisfactory as may be desired, for the reason that it is an inconvenient procedure to remove the crotch portion, and especially to reengage it with the panty girdle. Furthermore, by reason of the fact that the crotch portion is not integral with the panty girdle itself, it can very easily be lost whereupon the entire utility of the garment is destroyed.
It is true that contemporary panty girdles and girdles are far easier to don and remove than the lace-up corsets and similar garments of the not too distant past. Nevertheless, it does require a certain amount of effort for the wearer to don and remove modern panty girdles which generally consist of, or include, components of quite restrictive power net fabric.
Accordingly, it is the primary object of the present invention to provide a panty girdle which in all respects offers the advantages inherent in this kind of garment, yet which does not suffer from the drawback heretofore pres ent in panty girdles, of requiring removal of the garment during personal use. This object is achieved in a unique and highly ingenious fashion in which the components making the structure operative are at all times integral with the panty girdle, yet which may be displaced for personal use with a minimum of effort. To implement this object, the panty girdle has an opening in the crotch area thereof, and a crotch portion overlaying such opening. The crotch portion is attached only in part to the garment and may be easily manipulated by reason of its attachment to a control belt disposed at the rear of the garment and appropriately secured thereto.
Another object herein is to carry out the foregoing object by the use of components so integrated into the struc- 2,908,277 Patented Oct. 13, 1959 2 ture of the panty girdle that no bulkiness will result, but rather smoothness of fit and comfort to the wearer is made possible.
How these and many other objects are to be implemented will become clear through a consideration of the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front view of an embodiment of my novel panty girdle;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the lower portion of the garment in which the crotch portion is, omitted; i
Fig. 4 is a rear view similar to that seen in Fig. 2, but with the crotch portion, and portions of the crotch portion control belt omitted; and
Fig. 5 is a view of the embodiment of the garment shown in the preceding figures as seen from below, with portions of the crotch portion broken away.
The panty girdle of the drawings is generally indicated by the numeral 10. Such panty girdle 10 has a front portion 11, a rear portion 12, and leg portions 13 and 14. Interior panels 15 and 16 are present in leg portions 13 and 14 respectively, and such interior panels 15 and 16 extend upwardly from the respective leg openings 20 and 21, terminating in free edges 22 and 23. Interior panels 15 and 16 may preferably be made of horizontally stretchable fabric as an aid in the easy donning of the garment. It should be noted that, while in the embodiment seen in the drawings interior panels 15 and 16 are shown as distinct components within the panty girdle, it is not necessary in achieving a structure in accordance with my invention that such components be separate elements. An equivalent structure would result were the leg portions circumferentially a single piece of fabric.
Front portion 11 has a free edge 24 in the crotch area of the garment, and similarly rear portion 12 has a free edge 25 in the same area. Thus, an opening in the crotch area of the panty girdle is defined by free edges of interior panels 15 and 16, such free edges being designated by the numerals 22 and 23, free edge 24 of front portion 11, and free edge 25 of rear portion 12.
Furthermore, as may best be seen in Fig. 3, free edge 24 of front portion 11 is upwardly convex. Crotch portion 26 is attached to the front portion 11 along such upwardly convex edge 24. Such crotch portion is contoured to appropriately overlie the opening heretofore defined, and extends rearwardly. At the rear of the panty girdle, crotch portion 26 is attached to the crotch portion control belt 27. Such belt 27 is attached at its ends 28 and 29 tothe sides of the panty girdle, and it will be seen that such belt 27 consists of two segments 30 and 31. Thus, end 28 of the belt is the terminus for segment 30, and end 29 is the terminus for segment 31. Such segments 30 and 31 converge inwardly and downwardly from the sides of the panty girdle, as may best be seen in Fig. 2. Such segments then join at the medial vertical seam 32. Below the seam 32 the crotch portion control belt has a cut-out portion with an upwardly convex edge 33. This cut-out edge 33 substantially conforms to the similar upwardly convex free edge 25 of rear portion 12. Crotch portion 26 is attached to the belt 27 along the cut-out edge 33. The crotch portion control belt 27 is preferably made of stretchable fabric, primarily stretchable vertically.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that a panty girdle has been provided which ingeniously includes means for uncovering an opening in the crotch area of the panty girdle. The wearer simply grasps the crotch portion control belt 27 and slips it under the buttocks for personal use, whereupon the crotch portion 26 is removed from engagement with the opening in the crotch area of the panty girdle. After use, it is a very simple matter for the wearer to return the belt 27 to its normal position at the rear of the panty girdle.
While I have described a specific embodiment of my invention it is apparent that changes and modifications may be made therein and as so changed, the modified structure would still fall within the ambit of my invention.
Iclaim:

A panty girdle comprising a front portion, a rear portion, and leg portions, interior panels in said leg portions having free edges in the crotch area of said panty girdle, said front and rear portions of said panty girdle also having free edges in the crotch area of said panty girdle, said free edges in said interior panels and in said front and rear portions defining an opening in the crotch area of said panty girdle, a crotch portion attached to said front portion and extending rearwardly to cover said opening in the crotch area of said panty girdle, a crotch portion control belt attached to said panty girdle and disposed at the rear thereof, said crotch portion being attached to said belt, and wherein said crotch portion control belt comprises two segments, said belt being attached at its ends at the sides of said panty girdle, said segments comprising said belt converging downwardly from the sides of said panty girdle and meeting at a substantially medial vertically disposed seam in said panty girdle.
