UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH Gr. BROWN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Box FOR STATIONERY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,578, dated April 10, 1883.
' Application filed February 23,1883. (No model.)
I citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes for Gontainin g Stationery, of which the following is a specitication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. D
This invention has for its objects to provide an improved box or receptacle for stationery which will be ornamental in appearance, and in which the articles maybe securely and compactly inclosed and exposed in convenient shape when required for use, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which is represented a perspective view of my improved box or casingwith the parts opened out so as to expose the contents in position for convenient u'se.
My improved box or case is composed of two side boxes or receptacles, A, and an intermediate receptacle, B, to which the side boxes or cases are hinged at the opposite. lower edges in any convenient manner. The receptacles are all rectangular in shape and of the same area, so thatwhen the parts are closed their adjoining edges will fit neatly against each other. The intermediate section of the box consists of a rectangular frame, open at opposite sides, and has securedvwithin it a rectangular boxor receptacle, 0, open at the top, as indicated, so that the articles may be readily placed therein and taken therefrom as required. The parts of the box may be constructed of any material, and the outer and inner surfaces covered or lined with any ornamental mateheld togetherwhen closed. Itis evident, however, that clasps or other locking devices may be employed to secure the parts when closed without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The articles of stationery are designed to be placed in the various receptacles, the envelopes generallyin the side receptacles and the writing paper in the intermediate section. The order, however, maybe reversed; or the receptacles may be arranged so as to each receive a variety of articles,'if deemed preferable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, IS' 7 The combination, in a box for stationery, of the sides A A, the intermediate section, B, to which the sides are hinged, and the receptacle 0, located in and occupying about one-half of the intermediate section, with the locking device by which the parts are secured when closed, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ADOLPH G. BROWN.
