My invention relates to an improvement in sanitary trash containers.

The object of my invention is to provide a sanitary trash container which is provided with a removable bag to receive trash and the bag may be tied shut after it has been removed from the container, after which the container may be supplied with an empty bag, the filled bag then may be hauled away and the contents of thebag is confined therein so as to eliminate any possibility of the trash being blown away or scattered while it is being hauled.

Another object is to provide a container of the kind mentioned in which the bottom is loose so that any moisture that may be entered into the container will drain out.

Another object is to provide a. coptainer of the kind mentioned, having a weather tight cover so that rain and snow cannot enter the container.

A still further object is to provide a container of the kind mentioned in which the upper end of the bag overlaps the upper edge of the container and the lid of the container rests thereon tainer. In the drawing is shown a cylindrical shaped container l0 having an inwardly turned flange II at the bottom thereof on which rests a bottom element I2, the upper end of the element In is rolled as at Hi to form an outwardly extending 5 ring which serves as a reinforcement for the upper end of the container as well as to form a projection under which the bag l4 may be tied. The upper edge of the bag I4 is provided with a series of eyelets [5 through which a heavy cord I6 is threaded so that when the upper end of the bag 14 is lapped over the upper edge of the can as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the cord may be pulled tight and tied in a bow knot as at H, thereby securely fastening the bag It to the container l0.

At I8 is a cover for the container [0 which is provided with adownwardly extending flange element 18a, the cover l8 rests on top of the bag ll where it is turned over the rim iii of the container l0 so as to form a substantially air tight closure for the container. The cover I8 is attached to the container l0 by a hinge device comprising a link l9 which is pivotally mounted in a clip element 20 that is riveted or bolted to the flange element 18a and a link element [9 is also pivotally mounted in a second clip element 2| that is riveted or bolted to the container III. This type of a hinge device provides an attachment of the cover to the container which, when the cover is removed from the container, there are no obstructions adjacent the rim [3 and it is easy to turn the edge Ma of the bag It over the rim l3 and tie the cord I6 as shown at H so that the bag I4 is securely fastened to the container l0. Likewise this construction makes it easy to remove the bag from the container. After the bag and its contents have been removed from the container, the bag may be pulled closed by the cord l6 and then tied, whereupon the bag may be placed in a haulingvvehicle and the contents of the bag cannot be scattered or blown away. This is a feature of my improvement, since it prevents papers and trash from being scattered where they would be unsightly and would also offer opportunity for fires to be started and the like.

Such modifications may be employed as lie within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit and intention of the invention. Now having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

In a sanitary trash container; the combination of its component parts which are a housing, a removable bottom for said housing, and a cover for said housing having a continuous depending flange and hinged to the housing below the upper edge thereof, and a bag as a container in said housing; said housing having an outwardly extending portion around the top edge thereof, the upper edge of said bag having a pliable element threaded therethrough, the top edge of said has being turned over said outwardly extending portion and tied therebelow by said pliable element. said cover being hinged to the said housing in such a. manner that the cover will rest on the overturned top edge portions of the bag with the depending flange surrounding the turned over portion of the bag to form a tight closure for the bag and housing, the hinge joining the housing and cover together being a link type hinge permitting movements of the cover element in a. plane transverse to the vertical axis of the housing, and the link of said hinge being long enough to span the turned edge of the bag around the said housing.
