SHIRLEY E. SMALL, OF BROCKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TOOL.
.Application led September This invention relates to tools and has especial relation to wrenches, an object being to provide a tool. ot this character which may be used a wire cutter, a pair ci pliers, or a wrench, and which may be quickly and easily adjusted for use.
Another object ot the invention is the provision ot a tool which may be adjusted to the work and secured in adjusted position and which includes the 'tui-ther advantage of use both as a forked and socket wrench.
lilith the above and other objects in view, the invention 'further includes the Aollowing novel features and details ot construction, to be hereina'tter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
ln the drawingsz* Fig. l is a plan view of a tool constructed in accordance with the invention,
lig 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 8 ot Fig. l with the hinged members in closed position.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of rei'erence denote corresponding parts, the reference character l indicates a pair ot' elongated complemental members which are hingedly connected adjacent one of their ends by links ll arranged upon opposite faces oit the members. The ends or the members between the hinged connection and their outer ends are stepped as indicated l2 so as to provide nut-engaging portions for receiving` nuts ot dilieerent sizes and permit ol the wrench being used as a forked wrench.
The opposite ends of the members provide handles o* Ips 15.3, and pivotally secured to one ot one members near the inner end or its handle or grip as shown at lst are links l5, one ot these links bein upon each side ot' the member. 'The links l5 are provided with spaced openings i6 ior the reception oit' a pin l?, and this pin provice a. stop to limit pivotal movement oitl said members.
Formed in the adjacent edges off the members l() between their hinged connection and is adapted to 11, 1925. Serial No. 55,871.
the links are recesses 19 ot different depths and these recesses provide mit engaging sockets. The opposed edges ot the members ll() are also provided with tooth-ed or serrated portions 2O so as to permit-ot the tool being used as a pair ot pliers.
The members l0 adjacentthe hinge connection are recessed as at 2l toV provide opposed cutting edges 22 and thus torni wire cutter.
It. will be apparent from the 'tores-'ome' description and accompanying drawi that the invention provides a tool which combines a wrench capable ot' use both as a fork and a socket wrench, a pair oi" pliers, and a Wire cutter, and which may be quickly adjusted for use and manually or mechanically held in engagement with the work.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions, and minor details ot' construction; and the right is herein reservedl to make such changes as properly tall within the scope ofthe appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is l. A wrench comprising a pair ot complement-al members, links upon opposite sides ot and hingedly connecting the members adjacent o-ne end, gripping portions spaced along` the opposed edges of said members, handles for said members, links having on-e of their ends pivotally connected to the opposite sides ot' one ot the members, and means to adjustably engage said links with the other member to limit pivotal movement of the members.
2. wrench comprising a pair oi complemental members, links upon opposite sides of and hingedly connecting` the members adjacent one end, gripping jaws at one end ot said members, handles at the opposite ends ot the members and removable ineens capable of being positioned between said niembers to prevent relative inward pivotal movement of the members, or being positioned at one side of seid members to limit relative outward pivotal movement. l
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
