ATTORNEY FATE CLARENCE R. MOFARLAND, OF MARION, ILLINOIS.
UNDERGARMENT.
Application filed February 21, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARnNoE R. MoFAn- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of Williamson and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
The one piece undergarment such as the Athletic or B. V. D. construction when made of shrinkable material, after having been washed several times becomes uncomfortable and sometimes useless due to the fact that it becomes too short between the shoulders and the crotch.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a one piece undergarment which is open at the shoulders between the arm and neck holes and which is provided with adjustable means for connecting the open shoulders, so that the garment may be thus lengthened.
I accomplish the foregoing, and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, by a construction such as is disclosed in the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings 1- Figure 1 is a view of an undergarment constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
As disclosed by the drawing the undergarment has an open front, buttoned in the usual manner and has its shoulders opened.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July if, 1922.
Serial No. 446,692.
The shoulder portion of the garment, on one of the faces thereof there are integrally formed straps These straps are folded upon themselves and the folds are stitched together, as at 6. The stitches may be ripped, so that the straps may be thus lengthened, and as a consequence the garment likewise lengthened. The loops provided by the stitched straps are arranged in superimposed series, whereby any of the said stitches may be severed without interfering with the remainder thereof, and consequently the garment may be brought to desired lengths as occasion requires. The garment is especially adaptable to growing children, but may be manufactured and sold to retailers in stock sizes, the salesmen severing the desired lines of stitches to adapt the garment to the cus tomer, and thus the garment may be used by adults as well as children.
It is believed that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and advantages of the improvement.
Having described the invention, I claim A one piece undergarment having integrally formed shoulder portions in the nature of straps which are folded upon themselves and stitched, the stitched folds on each of the straps being arranged in spaced superimposed relation to each other whereby the stitching between any of the folds may be severed without interfering with the stitching of the remaining folds.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
CLARENCE R. MoFARLAND.
