Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture an austenitic stainless steel having superior hot workability and corrosion resistance by adding a specified amt. of B to an austenitic stainless steel, extremely reducing the S and O contents and soaking the resulting steel under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic stainless steel having a compsn. consisting of, by weight, <=0.06% C, <=3.0% Si, <=2.0% Mn, 16-25% Cr, 6-25% Ni, <=3.0% Mo, 2-5% Cu, <=0.4% N, <=0.040% P and the balance Fe or further contg. <=2.5% W and/or <=1.5% V is prepd., <=0.010% B is added to the steel and the O and S contents are considerably reduced to <=0.0060% O and <=0.001% S. The resulting austenitic stainless steel is soaked at 1,200-1,300 deg.C under conditions satisfying inequality I [where t is soaking time (sec) and T is soaking temp. ( deg.C)] so as to further improve the hot workability and corrosion resistance.
