Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent display function from degrading in a low-temp. environment by providing a heating element consisting of a transparent conductive film on the outside surface of a liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:A transparent heating element 14 of about 70% light transmittance and 1-200OMEGA/SQ surface resistances formed with a central heating part 13 and power source connecting electrodes 13a, 13b through Au vapor deposition or the like on a light transmittable polyester film 12 is disposed on the outer side of a lower substrate 2 of a liquid crystal display element. It is a good practice to prevent cutting or the like owing to overheating by making the Au film in the terminal 13a, 13b parts thicker than the heating part 13. Since in this way the heating element 14 which has beforehand been manufactured in a separate process is disposed on the outside surface side (it is equally well to bond the same to a lower substrate 2 by means of a heat-resistant and transparent adhesive), productivity is improved and the display device with the heating element is produced at a low cost. A polarizing plate 7 and a light reflecting plate 10 are provided on the outer side of the plate 14. The element 14 may be provided on the outer side of an upper substrate 1 as well.
