Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an intake system of the type having an intake shutter in its intake passage, which is capable of obtaining a proper amount of intake air under any operational condition of engine, by providing by-pass passages by-passing the intake shutter at a portion of the intake passage, and communicating the by-pass passages under particular operational condition of engine.
CONSTITUTION: When depression on the accelerator pedal is removed after engine starting operation is completed, an accelerator switch 24 is turned ON and a three- way solenoid valve 10 is energized. Resultantly, negative pressure in a vacuum tank 13 is transmitted to a vacuum chamber 8a of a power chamber 8, so that an intake shutter 4 is closed by a diaphragm 8b. During the above idling operation of engine when the engine temperature is low, intake air is supplied from a by-pass passage 20 via an on-off valve 19 which is opened only when the engine temperature is low, so that restriction by the intake shutter 4 is moderated. On the other hand, when the exhaust brake is actuated during engine operation after the engine is warmed up sufficiently, an exhaust-brake switch 25 is turned ON, so that a three-way valve 11 and a solenoid valve 17 are opened and a by-pass passage 16 is communicated.
