Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily start a light source lamp for an atomic frequency standard unit for light pumping and reduce the power consumption with long life by increasing the exciting electric power of the lamp at light emission starting time and decreasing it after the starting. CONSTITUTION:A lamp 1 containing rubidium metal and carrier gas such as neon sealed therein is contained within an exciting coil 2 forming an exciting circuit, and a capacitor 9 is connected in parallel with the coil 2. The emitter of a transistor 15 is connected to the neutral point of the coil 2 through a parallel circuit 16 of a resistor and a capacitor, a power supply terminal B2 is connected to the collector thereof, and a photodetecting solar battery 13 disposed oppositely to the lamp 1 is connected through an arithmetic amplifier 14 to the base thereof. Thus, since no output is produced from the battery 13 when the lamp is starting, the output of the amplifier 14 is high to thereby cause the transistor 15 to amplify nearly to class A to thereby flow large current through the coil 2. When the lamp 1 is once started to emit the light, the output is produced at the battery to thereby cause the transistor to amplify nearly to class C so as to lower the exciting power.
