Abstract

The hub (10) which is mountd on the vehicle axle is provided with a central flange (11). Two brake discs (13, 15) are attached to the flange (11), by means of bolts (30) and bosses (25, 26) which fit in slots in the flange (11). The discs (131, 5) are provided with radial ribs (18, 19) on their inner faces to form a centrifugal fan. When the brake is applied, the heat generated is dissipated by the air which is drawn in through the annulus (33) and expelled radially outwards. In addition the air flow prevents the heat reaching the vehicle axle. The design also permits easy replacement of the discs when they are worn.
