Abstract
952,779. Flexible joints; bearings. LUXEMBOURGEOISE DE BREVETS ET DE PARTICIPATIONS. Feb. 13, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 5307/61. Headings F2A and F2S. A dust-proof and fluid-tight rotational or pivotal joint comprises a rubber ring 4 which is bonded to a cylindrical sleeve 3 and a pair of frusto-conical-shaped bushings 5, 5 which are made, e.g. of nylon or self-lubricating sintered metal and which, when introduced into the joint and moved axially towards each other over a shaft 1, compress the rubber ring 4, the bushings 5, 5 being retained against the reactive outwardly-acting force due to the precompressed sleeve 4 by means of washers 6 which are held on the shaft 1 by split pins 7. The outwardly acting reactive force can be increased by introducing a compression spring 8 into a lubricant space between the small ends 5 3 of the bushings 5, 5. In a modification, Fig. 8, the bushings 5, 5 have external collars 5 5 , 5 5 and inner annular swellings 5 6 which precompress a bead 4 2 on the sleeve 4, the outer surface of which may be frusto-conical or, as shown, in the form of a cylinder connected to a truncated cone. The solid shaft 1 is replaced by a tubular sleeve 10 crimped at its ends over retaining washers 6. A radially-extending disc can be incorporated within the ring 4 on a medium transverse plane.
