Abstract
948,109. Pneumatic conveyers. S. T. TRANSEAU. June 4, 1962, No. 21488/62. Heading B8A. In a rotary pocket discharger for granular &c. material the inlet 15, Fig. 4, contains a shear knife 30 mounted for coaction with the leading edges 21a of the rotor blades 21 and skewed relatively to the rotor axis so that the point of shearing continuously moves across the opening. The knife 30 is welded at 37 in the inlet 15 and has chamfered cutting edges 33, 34, Fig. 1, arranged in V-formation. The inner surface of the knife 30 is contoured to conform to the cylindrical surface of the discharger housing 11. Discharge of material from the outlet 16 is controlled by a diaphragm plate 49, Fig. 2, having diagonal slots 50 extending across the opening. The rotor blades 21 carry resiliently mounted blade-like sealing elements 26, Fig. 6, arranged in recesses 36. The blades 26 are seated between strips 40, 41 of resilient material such as rubber or neoprene. In the example of Fig. 6 shown, the elements 26 are urged outwardly by radial springs 43 acting against a non-resilient strip 42 but are held rigidly in the circumferential direction by a bolted clamping plate 27. In modifications one or more elements 26 in each blade 21 may be seated entirely in resilient material. The housing 10 has a contoured access door 46 for the blades 21 extending the full width of the housing. Annular sealing rings (not shown), disposed about the ends 23 of the rotor 12 provide a seal between the rotor and the easing.
