862,353. Pipe couplings. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT Ltd., HOLMAN, G. S. F., and BURRETT, T. M. Dec. 17, 1959, No. 42973/59. Class 99(1). In a pipe coupling a hollow body 1 has its end 1<SP>2</SP> machined flat to provide a sharp edge around its bore and is formed with an external thread for engagement by a guide 2 placed around a pipe 5 and having therein a collar 3 tapered to match the flared end of the pipe 5 in which is located a nipple 4 comprising a cone-ended conical component having a parallel shank to fit the bore of the pipe. Tightening of the union 2 causes the cone end of the nipple 4 to be forced against the sharp edge of the body end 1<SP>2</SP> to make line contact therewith whilst the pipe 5 is gripped between the nipple 4 and the collar 3. The body 1 is provided with a complementary externally threaded portion 13.
