Abstract

715,527. Hose couplings. OLDHAM, C. A. E. Aug. 25, 1952 [Aug. 24, 1951; Sept. 28, 1951], Nos. 20028/51 and 22731/51. Class 99 (1). A hose coupling member 3 is internally screw-threaded to receive a bush 7 having an enlarged contractible head 8 provided with closely spaced saw-cuts, and is externally threaded to receive a coupling sleeve 4 having an integral or separate ring abutment 10 which engages the chamfered end of the head 8 to contract the latter into the hose 5. An insert 12 having a tapered leading end 13 and a union nut 15 is then screwed into the member 3 and the hose, and the sleeve 4 is finally tightened. The bush head 8 has annular grooves 11 to increase the grip on the hose. The screw-thread of the insert 12 may be of opposite hand to those of the bush and sleeve. If the hose is reinforced, the bared reinforcement 16 is flared over an internal flange 9 of the brush, and is clamped between the bush and a flanged ring 17.
