A slider for a slide fastener is provided with a spring-biased latch member 8 pivotally mounted at 10 on one wing 1 of the slider and having a finger 14 projecting through an opening 15 in the wing 1 for locking the fastener, the finger 14 forming one branch of a bifurcated end portion of the latch member 8, the other branch being formed by a tongue 17 having its lower edge shaped to provide an inclined cam 18 for engagement by a transverse pin 19 of the pulling link 20. The upper edge of the latch member 8 is engaged by a spring blade 21, disposed in an outer cap 22 attached to projections 4, 5 on the wing 1 and urging the finger 14 into engagement with the coupling links (not shown) of the fastener, and a nose 12 is provided on the latch member which, when the slider is unintentionally moved in the opening direction, will press into the spring blade 21 and form a pivot around which the latch member 8 will revolve to bite more firmly into the coupling links. The spring blade 21 therefore can be constructed with a relatively small spring force which consequently reduces the pulling force necessary at the link 20 to disengage the finger 14, this force being further reduced due to the relatively longer travel of the pin 19, forward and rearward of the finger 14, allowing the cam 18 to have a smaller incline.
