Relatively movable surfaces are separated by a rubber or rubber-like bushing or other member and lubricant is sealed between the rubber and one or both of the surfaces. As shown in Fig. 1 there is relative movement between shaft 11 and arm 10. Fitted about the reduced end 13 of shaft 10 is a sleeve 20 to which a rubber bushing 22 is bonded. The bushing rotates within a collar 21 forced in an aperture in the arm 10 and is provided with longitudinal grooves 50 in which lubricant is sealed. The collar 21 has at one end an inturned flange 34 engaging in a corresponding groove in the bushing. At the other end both the collar and bushing are of enlarged diameter and flanges 41, 42 form a lubricant and dirt seal. Instead of spaced grooves 50 the bushing may have a scalloped outer surface, or the grooves may be connected by a single circumferential groove. As shown the bushing is retained on shaft I by a washer 55 held by bolt 15 but in pivots designed to take end thrust either the open end of collar 21 is bent over the bushing or an end plate is secured in the collar. As shown in Fig. 15 relatively movable members 130, 131 are corrugated or screw threaded with the rubber interposed. Lubricant is retained in grooves or dimples formed in any or all of the opposed surfaces. The invention is also shown applied to a ball joint in which the spherical surface may be dimpled. In Fig. 27, lever 230 moves relative to the fixed frame 231. The cup-shaped end of lever 230 moves between rubber bearings 233, 234 retained in position by member 232 bolted to frame 231.
