Abstract

In the production of a sliding bearing, a backing of steel or steel covered with another metal, e.g. copper or copper alloy, is successively electroplated with a lead-copper binary alloy containing 0.5 to 15% copper and with indium which is then diffused into the lead-copper layer by heating. The indium content of the diffusion alloy layer may be from 1 to 15%. Typically the lead-copper alloy contains 2 to 6, e.g. 3% copper and the ternary alloy contains 5% indium.
