Abstract

[Also in Group XXIX] An exhalation valve comprises an inflatable valve member 14 housed in a valve chamber 12, the valve member being inflatable by oxygen supplied through a duct 21 from a regulator controlling the pressure of oxygen to a pilot's breathing- mask, the inflation of valve member 14 resulting in the closing of outlet ports 13 in the valve chamber to prevent the passage of air into the valve chamber during inhalation. Upon exhalation through the orifice 27 the increase in pressure in the valve chamber causes the valve member 14 to roll back upon itself and partially collapse to uncover the ports 12 to allow the exhaled air to escape to atmosphere. A flexible non-return valve 26 closes the orifice 27 on inhalation to prevent any tendency for the valve member 14 to collapse during a deep inhalation.
