Abstract

799,796. Reclining chairs. LORENZ, A. "March 7, 1956, No. 7111/56. Class 52(2) A reclining chair with a back-rest 14 rigidly interconnected with a seat 16 to form a unit 12 rockably mounted on support 10 about an axis 18 has guiding links 22, 24 pivoted to the seat at 28 and to the support at 30 to form a toggle control linkage, biased by a spring or the like 34, to automatically block the unit 12 in the upper position, the pivot 32 being past dead-centre and link 22 engaging a stop 38. To move to reclined position the link 22 is moved to other side of dead-centre by a handle 26. A stop surface 40 engages the seat in its lowest reclined position.. In a modification, Fig. 3, link 122 is coupled by a link 154 to a leg rest 150 pivoted at 152 to the seat 116, the leg rest forming a counterbalance to replace spring 34. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the leg rest is pivoted to the support instead of the seat and in yet another modification, Fig. 7, the leg rest 350 is mounted on a lazy tong linkage having members 353, 354, 359.
