Abstract

773,533. Valves. CALOR GAS (DISTRIBUTING), CO., Ltd., TAYLOR, T. H., and OLIVER, F. D. May 9, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6827/54. Class 135. A valve suitable for gas storage cylinders consists of a spring-loaded closure member 2 coacting with a seat 3 towards which it is moved by a stem 18 which is engaged by a hand wheel 14 having screw-threaded connection with the exterior of the casing, the closure member and the stem 18 being separated by a sealing diaphragm 16 which is clamped in the casing by a plug 15 having a central bore through which the stem 18 passes. The arrangement is such that there is no direct connection between the diaphragm clamping member 15 and the hand wheel so that the member 15 does not tend to be loosened by operation of the valve. A lubricant retainer in the form of a felt pad 19 is situated under the hand wheel 14 and the latter has an oil hole 20. A retaining ring 21 prevents the hand wheel from being screwed off the casing.
