731,087. Knifting-machines. CAPDEVILA, F. P., and FORNELLS, S. T. Oct. 22, 1952 [Oct. 22, 1951], No. 26573/52. Class 74 (2). A machine for knitting fabric having alternate plain and purl courses has two oppositely facing needles 17, 18 arranged in each needle trick, one set of needles 17 being supplied with yarn and knitting at one feeder 46 and the other set of needles 18 being supplied with yarn and knitting at a second feeder 45. In a circular machine the yarn guide 41 at one feeder 45 is arranged within the needle circles to supply the needles 18, and a curved bar 37 over which the fabric is drawn is disposed outside the needle circles, so that the knitted loops are drawn to the inner face of the knitted tube, and at the second feeder 46 the yarn guide 42 is arranged outside the needle circles, and a curved bar 38 is arranged within the needle circles, so that the knitted loops are drawn to the outer face of the knitted tube. The separate sets of needles 17, 18 have butts 19, 22 arranged at different levels, and separate cam tricks are provided for each set, so that each set knits at its own feeder, the needles of the other set being operated at that feeder to act as a sliding latch. The sinkers, Fig. 5, have notches 35 to receive the yarn, the notches having cut-away portions 36 at each side to facilitate leading the yarn to the needles.
