Abstract
727,734. Valves. KIDDE CO., Ltd., W. Feb. 18, 1953 [Feb. 22, 1952], No. 4712/52. Class 135. A quick-opening safety valve for inflatable dinghies &c. consists of a valve disc 7 urged by a spring 8 against a seating constituted by an annular bead 6 formed integrally with the rubber &c. body 1. A stationary member 9 forming an abutment for the spring and a guide for the valve disc is held by a circlip 11 in a metal sleeve 3. Excess pressure raises the valve disc and, initially, also the annular bead 6 until the disc is moved further than the bead will deflect at the pressure obtaining, whereupon the reduction in the pressure difference across the bead due to the opening of the valve causes the bead to return to its initial position. Similarly, as the disc returns towards its seating on the bead the increasing pressure difference across the latter causes it to be deflected upwardly to meet the disc.
