Abstract

711,137. Rotary pump. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd., and PHILLIPPS, I. H. Dec. 19, 1951 [Dec. 20, 1950], No. 31058/50. Class 110(2) [Also in Group XXX] In a rotary valve device for conveying particulate solids from an inlet to an outlet whilst maintaining a difference of fluid pressure between the inlet and outlet, and comprising a rotor having at least three vanes operating within a stator, a fluid seal between at least one vane 11 and the stator 12 is provided by accumulation in a recess 10 in the leading edge of the vane of the particulate solid matter. The recess may increase in depth from the leading edge, as shown, or be of constant depth so that in the event of the rotor tending to jam it may be turned in the reverse direction to free the solids from the recess. As shown in Fig. 2, a member 13 which works with close clearance in the stator, and a member 14 forming the recess, are adjustable. The rotor may have one or more blades (not shown) for clearing adhering solids from the stator.
