[Also in Groups X and XIII] An electrical battery k, in a vehicle having a heating and ventilating installation, is heated when the interior of the vehicle is being heated and is cooled when the interior is being ventilated without being heated. Fresh air is caused by the motion of the vehicle to enter a passage a and branch therefrom into two passages b, c before re-uniting in a passage d which opens into the space around the driver's feet. Engine coolant flows through a heater e in the passage c to heat the air therein. A flap valve m at the branching point of the passages b, c or, as shown, at the junction of the passages, allows hot air, cold air or a mixture of both to flow into the passage d and into a narrow passage i conducting air over the battery k of the vehicle to discharge into the open air. Controlling flaps n, o may be provided in the passages d, i. The flap o may be controlled by the temperature of the battery, in which case the controls of the flaps m and o may be made interdependent to allow for seasonal conditions. The air may be heated electrically and other parts or apparatus on the vehicle may be heated or cooled. Defrosting nozzles for the windscreen may be connected to the passage d.
