Abstract

602,746. Oil seals. TRIST & CO., Ltd., R., and BOMYER, L. June 4, 1945, No. 14057. [Class 122 (v)] An oil seal comprises a rubber sealing ring 2, a rubber backing ring 4 of greater resilience, deformed when the seal is applied to the shaft 5, and a rigid dished ring 9 to pre-deform the sealing ring. In an alternative construction the ring 9 is omitted. As shown in Fig. 3 the backing ring 4 is originally flat and there may be one on each side of the sealing ring 2. The seal may be double comprising two sealing rings extending away from one another and two backing rings, with or without two deforming rigid rings. Specification 602,792 is referred to.
