Abstract
574,885. Spray evaporators. LEVERICK, F. Nov. 18, 1943, No. 19244. [Class 32] Apparatus for separating the more volatile components of a liquid mixture from the iess volatile components and comprising a preheater, spray discharge nozzles and a reduced pressure chamber is characterised in that the liquid passes from the preheater into a short steadying space terminating in a wall constituted as a nozzle plate. The liquid mixture is drawn by vacuum pump A into steam heated vessel F through gland E. It flows through radially disposed U- tubes G, during which it is heated to a temperature slightly less than the evaporation temperature of the most volatile constituent, and then passes to a small steadying space H, Fig. 32, which is bounded on one side by a nozzle plate h' through which the liquid is discharged as fine jets into the expansion chamber J where the pressure is less than that in the steadying space owing to the resistance of the nozzles. Evaporation of the more volatile constituents of the liquid takes place in chamber J and the vapours and unevaporated liquid so formed pass together through steam heated tubes k, where further evaporation takes place, into separation chamber M. Transverse tubes j pass through chamber J and these communicate with the steam vessel-F.
