573,273. Transformers ; arc welding systems. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 17, 1943, No. 9727. Convention date, June 22, 1942.. [Classes 38 (ii) and 38 (iv)] A high reactance transformer, e.g. for arc welding, is provided with a subdivided secondary winding, the parts of which are so arranged on the core as to have different leakage reactances and are associated with switches, whereby they may be selectively connected in parallel to the load, fine regulation being provided by a variable impedance included in the circuit of one of the secondary winding portions. In the form shown in Fig. 1, secondaries 3, 4, 5, 6 are associated with a primary 2, the secondary 6 being permanently connected to the load 10 through a variably-saturated inductance 8. The other secondaries are associated with switches 9 whereby they can be selectively connected to the load. In a modification, Fig: 2, the fine regulation is effected by a movable magnetic shunt 22 effective to vary the impedance of the secondary 14. A polyphase arrangement in which provision is made for switching the secondary windings over to a V-connection is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
