Abstract

584,420. Automatic voltage regulation. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and WALKER, A. H. B. Dec. 20, 1944, No. 25532. [Class 38 (iv)] A voltage regulating arrangement for a polyphase system, comprises, in each phase, a saturated autotransformer T1 connected in series on the primary and secondary sides with the windings of an unsaturated transformer T2, the arrangement being such that one or each transformer is combined with the corresponding transformers in the other phases to form a polyphase unit or units and a series connection of condenser C and inductance L for each phase connected in star or delta with the output terminals S1, S2, S3 as shown. Operation of the arrangement is similar in principle to that for a single-phase system described in Specification 548,526. Preferably the inductances L are mounted on air gap cores operating at relatively low flux density or they may be arranged on a common core. The cores of transformers T2 or the corresponding polyphase transformer may have auxiliary delta connected windings for the suppression of third harmonic voltages in the output circuit.
