[Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XXX] A machine for collecting and raising crops comprises an elevator frame 12 mounted on a wheeled truck 10, a trough slidably mounted in the frame and carrying an endless band fitted with tines, and winding gear 68 connected by a cable 67 to the trough for moving the latter to its required position of adjustment. As shown in Fig. 1, the. frame 12 is pivoted at 11 to the truck and is supported at any required inclination by struts 14 fitted with rollers 17, Fig. 4, on which the frame rests and carrying pivoted detents 19 which can fit into selected slots in the frame bars 13. A hand lever 24 is connected by links to the detents on either side of the frame to release the detents when the frame is to be adjusted. The longitudinal frame members 13 are of channel section and slidably receive shoes or slides 74 fitted to the underside of the trough. The latter consists of longitudinal members 31, 32, 33, side plates 34, bottom plates 35, 36, and longitudinal rails 37, and carries an endless band conveyer. The conveyer comprises chains 38 interconnected by cross-bars 41 carrying the tines 43 and passing over upper and lower sprockets 53, 54, mounted on shafts on the trough frame. The lower shaft 56 is driven by an engine 64 through. chain gearing which includes sprockets on a shaft 59 supported by links 65, 66, this construction permitting the conveyer to be driven in any position of the trough. The trough is adjusted by means of the winch 68 which is mounted on one of the struts 14 and the cable 67 of which passes around pulleys on the frame and trough. The lower end of the trough is fitted with a pivoted scoop 76 comprising a base consisting of a number of spaced parallel bars 78 and two side plates 79. The scoop is held in its required position of adjustment by a pin passing through any one of a series of holes 83. When the scoop and trough are in the positions shown, the scoop picks up the crop from the ground, the crop passing into a channel part 85 of the scoop where it is picked up by the endless conveyer. When the trough is slidden up the elevator frame the scoop is raised to the position shown in chain dot lines and the crop is fed by hand into the scoop.
