Abstract

554,486. Lathe-steadies. MANCHESTER REPETITION ENGINEERS, Ltd., and LIVING- STONE, H. June 17, 1942, No. 8298. [Class 83 (iii)] A profile turning rollerbox comprises a frame a mountable in a turret or other part by a shank b and provided with a pair of adjustable slides s, t carrying steady rollers, and also with a tool-holding lever c pivoted at d and controlled by a profile bar m which is automatically moved endwise as the roller box passes over the work. The tool g is secured to the lever by screws f and a spring plunger h at one end of the lever maintains a follower on the lever in contact with the profile bar. The latter is secured to a part n which carries a steady bar o guided in the front of the frame. A centre piece p on the part n is engaged by the end of the work as it is passed over the box and moves the profile bar backwards, thus causing the tool to shape the required contour. Alternatively the profile bar may be moved axially by its engagement with a stop on the lathe. When profile turning is not required the part n with the bars m and o is removed and a plain bar is placed in the hole vacated by the profile bar.
