Abstract
543,866. Cooling-towers. INGERSLEV, H., and BIERRUM & PARTNERS, Ltd. Sept. 17, 1940, No. 14290. [Class 64 (i)] A cooling stack is built up of concrete beams supporting closely spaced cross laths and arranged in superposed tiers. The bottom beams 2 rest on pillars 1 and beams 3 rest across alternate pairs of beams 2 the spaces between the ends of the beam 3 being bridged by beams 4: Beams 5 rest on and at right angles to the beams 4, and beams 6, 7 are arranged and supported like the beams 3, 4 and so on to the top of the stack. The beams may be formed with inter-engaging projections and recesses at their contacting portions, and they may be provided with recesses or apertures to receive the cross laths. Each beam may increase in width and depth towards its centre. The layers of beams may be of smaller area towards the top to form a conical or pyramidical stack and some of the layers may be inclined to the horizontal.
