Abstract

542,099. Exhaust-silencers. MONTAGUE, W. W. Oct. 4, 1940, No. 14859. [Class 7 (ii)] Exhaust-silencers 1 are cooled by surrounding them with a casing 3 open at both ends so as to leave an air gap between the casing and the outside of the silencer, without admixture within the casing of the air and exhaust gases. The casing may be secured by screws engaging distance pieces 2. The front or both ends of the casing may be flared, and the walls of the casing may be perforated. A second casing and air gap may be arranged around the first. The casing may be of oval, and if desired of varying, cross-section, and may be made of aluminium, asbestos, artificial resins &c.
