Abstract

538,774. Thermionic valves. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 9, 1940, No. 4434. Convention date, March 13, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Groups XXXV and XVIII] A clock or like motor comprises a thermionic valve and a magnet moved by the oscillating portion to break current in the valve. In the arrangement shown a balance wheel 21, provided with a spring 27, carries an armature 23 and a permanent magnet 25. The armature co-operates with an electromagnet 43 the coil of which is in series with a valve 41 so arranged that when the armature 23 approaches the electromagnet 43 the magnet 25 breaks the current in the valve. The filling of the valva consists of argon at from 1 to 100 mm, preferably between 15 and 25 mm, and caesium saturated in operation.
